Again this is a free country. If anyone wants to be on the Ballot, then Republicans and Democrats alike should push to make sure they are on the Ballot.
Or does a particular Party want to disenfranchise voters to take away their candidate that they would vote for?
Even though I didn't want Perot on the Dole/Clinton Ballot, he had the RIGHT.

I agree. The democrats and republicans have made it too hard for third parties to enter the race.

Kind of an interesting take on getting third parties into the mix.

And make it count with instant runoffs. In this system, voters rank the candidates in order of preference. If the first “winner” doesn’t get at least 50 percent of the vote, the least favorite candidate is dropped, and those votes go to the voters’ next favorite candidate. You do a new count, and repeat the process until someone gets 50 percent.
It sounds like a voting system for people with no backbone, conviction or are upset about picking a looser. It only deals with the voting issues on the personal level and not how to be fair on the national level.

What if there are two conservative candidates, but one is for the war in Iraq, and the other is against? If I'd like to see an end to the war, I'd vote for the anti-war candidate. However, if the anti-war candidate does not win, I would not want to hurt the chances of the pro-war candidate, since the only other party running are the communists.
It's exactly the reason why Bush Sr didn't win re-election... and why Gore didn't win too. It hurts both sides when a third-party spoiler emerges and takes away votes from an otherwise popular candidate, making a less-preferable candidate emerge as the winner.

Ok, lets say, there are two candidates from the Republican party and they have differing views. You can vote in the primary that determines the political party's candidate. If the person chosen is not the one you voted for, you can vote for the party's candidate or some other party's candidate. Maybe the person you want, will run as another party or independent, then you can vote for the person.
You will rarely find someone that fits all your views perfectly. You want it both ways. You are not making a choice based on conviction. You say you want to vote a certain way, but you want "do-overs" if your candidate doesn't win.
People need to find out what issues are most important to them. Is it issues about national defense, health care, economy, or anything else? Are you going to stand on your conviction or sell out to vote for someone else.
People that say, "Well, I would vote for Nader but I don't want Bush to win." are not voting on conviction.
