View Full Version : Second DFW Stangs Motorcycle Roadtrip - Possum Kingdom Lake

Trying to plan ahead for the next one since I'll have to schedule it for when I'm in town. Looking for some feedback so I can start planning a riding route.

What do you guys think of Possum Kingdom Lake? Thinking about first weekend of November and doing this as an overnight trip. The cabin rental rates seem reasonable but there talking about a two day rental (Friday and Saturday) so that may present a little bit of a problem.

Cabins

No pets allowed in the cabins or cabin area. Maximum occupancy is strictly enforced (children do count towards the maximum.) Reservations on weekends must have both Friday & Saturday nights unless it's December, January, or February. No tents allowed outside of the cabin. Customer must provide eating/cooking utensils and bath linens.
6 - 4 person cabins

$65

1 - 8 person cabin. Also known as the "Longhorn Lodge". This cabin has A/C, heat, kitchen, full size stove, oven, refrigerator, dinette suite, bath with a shower & hot water, and 2 bedrooms w/ 2 double beds. No Microwave or coffee pot. Outside there is a picnic table and BBQ grill. There is no fireplace in this cabin.

Well I'd want to get the "big" cabin and don't forget that price is times two. A little expensive and if they want it rented both on Friday and Saturday we will have to figure something out.

That still wont be to bad depending on how many people chip in... like 30-40 bucks

I've ridden this solo before. Lots of nice long straights and long sweeping curves. Any competent rider should be able to average 120 mph the whole way. Nice scenery with no John Q. Law. My only advice is to invest in a steering damper before hand to maximize corner exit control. I would tag along if my bike wasn't set up for drag racing.

True. I'm looking at other options as well just to make sure we are getting the best deal. My beef with doing it through the State Park is that they want it rented for both Friday and Saturday where we would only need it for Saturday.

Cool. Can you give me an idea of the route you took? I'd like to start mapping out the trip there and back and your input would help.

offer still stands on the first one Jose, i'd be more then willing to drive the s-crew and be a chase truck :D

Haven't set a date yet. Hell I'm trying to figure a place to stay that's reasonably priced.

We have our family reunion there every year and we always get all of the cabins. They are pretty nice for the price. Just watch the out side beer drinknig the park rangers are dicks.

guys i dont mean to be a bother

but if you'r gonna ride around pk please be careful.....

i live in wichita falls so i really don't think i know any of you and i don't ride motorcycles but about two years ago one of my best friends had a very bad accident up there and had a girl on the back with him and both of them were killed so i know that you guys don't like to hear bad news but even though i don't personally know any of you. Please be careful i know most of you are experienced but that doesn't always cover your ass

Thanks for the concearn. These riders have demonstrated to me that they are a very responsible group. They knew when to hang back and take it easy. And also made sure that every last rider was with the group and safe at all times. No need for worries here.

Well you say that but it wasn't until we got to my house that you guys realized we were missing Lyle in the yellow GSXR and I told you guys that he split at the Exxon in Venus LOL!

I agree though, I think we've got a pretty good group of responsible guys and they've demonstrated that they know the limits and know not to push themselves. I'm looking forward to the trip to Possum Kingdom and I'll have to start researching info on getting low rate for a cabin. Any help you guys can do would help.

CANONBALL RUN!!!! I went out there the first time for Independence day and I have to say that would be a great canonball run, thought about it, but decided not to because we were just going to waste gas. Have fun though, hell's gate is great :D
