Plan for a long ride and a Kick Stands Up time of around 12:15pm-12:30pm. We need to start promptly as our KSU time is later than I'd want but we need to acommodate a few riders. Plus I have no idea how long this ride will take.

Yellow is the trip down to Dublin.
Green is the return route.

1. Planning to stop in Stephenville for lunch at the below location.

Hard Eight Barbeque
1091 Glen Rose Rd, Stephenville, TX 76401
(254) 968-5552

2. Followed by a stop at the Dr. Pepper Plant in Dublin (http://www.dublindrpepper.com/).

3. Another stop to follow in Venus for a break and quick grub followed by a promising techical ride up up 157. Plan for a late return and the ride up 157 really depends on the amount of light available as it's a tight and narrow rode and I don't want to take anybody down there that's not familliar with it. Alternate is to head straight up 67 and grub down in Cedar Hill or Duncanville.

Dublin, TX

Start: Great Southwest Parkway, Grand Prarie, TX
Destination: Dublin, Texas
Finish Great Southwest Parkway, Grand Prarie, TX
Total Distance: Unknown at this time
Estimated Total Time: Unknown at this time

How long will it take you to get ready? We could wait but I don't want to leave to late in the afternoon so we'd have to get a start time as close to Noon as possible.

Is this going to be a one day trip or are we going to camp??

Let's make this a day trip this time. I've got an idea we can day for an overnight trip to either Possum Kingdom Lake or Lake Whitney for the next "short" trip. Possum Kingdom's State Park has cabin rentals available and Lake Whitney we could crash out at my parents house.

Twisties, I'll be looking through maps this afternoon and tonight to decide on a route.

hey bobber, i'll be going for sure unless i have to work, and i'm up in plano, so we can meet up and ride to wherever the official GTG spot is.

Hey Adam, when will you know if you will be available to go? Can't do a road trip without my two riding buddies http://www.dfwstangs.net/forums/images/icons/icon14.gif

well, like i said, I'm currently unemployed, and it takes the wrath of god to keep me off this bike, so unless i get a job and they demand i have to work this particular day, even after me explaining my "doctor's appointment", then i'll be out.

but you know i'm down given any different circumstances.
jose, know anybody looking for a roommate in the plano area?

Well after looking at a map and consulting with a friend of mine back in Dallas who likes to ride his Gold Wing out to Glenrose alot, the ride out looks pretty boring. He said it gets more interesting out by Glenrose as you start the enter the Hill Country but some curves and changes in elevation but that's about it unless we find an alternate route. I'm going to check out more info as the day progress's and post up.

bobber
10-06-2004, 08:56 AM
I'm rolling solo

evil jose
10-06-2004, 09:05 AM
For the most part, I think everyone is riding solo. Don't see why it would be a problem if she came along though. As far as the length of the ride, I'm figuring roughly 300 miles. Based on the start time and stops I would figure we would be back no later than 6 or 7pm.

ELVIS
10-06-2004, 09:11 AM
that sounds like a ball. i will leave the wife at home and roll solo, that is if just anyone is invited.

Still trying to talk my cousin into driving my truck for the trip. What do you guys think? Do we need a "chase" truck?

1. My girl wants to go but I coming SOLO anyway.. :D Rides like this suck with BSB's.

2. A chase truck would be nice but if we can't get one I don't see it being a really big deal, we'll just have to chill a little on the aggressive riding. If someone does line up a chase truck I have no prob. thrown in some cash to cover gas.

the truck doesnt really matter to me either way. i would give some gas money though if we had one. i will leave the wife because i cant imagine it being too comfortable with a passenger for a long trip. this aint gonna be no 55 stay alive trip is it  ??? tripple digits!!!! :D

hahaha

The reason I'd want to go on the overnighter is for the camping; not to cramp his ride. :p

I'd meet him up there or follow in the chase truck or something, but not ride the entire way on the back... ;)

evil jose
10-06-2004, 12:26 PM
Well pitching in on the gas money would really help me out, appreciate the offers guys. I'll talk to my cuz again after work and see if I can convince him or try to at least get a firm answer so I can try and line someone else up. I might be able to get another buddy of mine to drive my truck but he'll want to ride my bike part of the way I'm sure :D (he's bikeless right now).

I'm all for agressive riding but gotta watch the speeds as well for the popo. I'm really hoping for some curves and changes in elevation once we get close to Dublin. I enjoy that riding more than I do triple digits. I guess we do need to lay some ground rules though for this group since it'll be a larger one than I normally ride with. Mostly I'm concerned about spacing and if you are going to do any kind of wheelies or stunts to allow plenty of room for the others.

I'm looking already into the next trip and I'll have more info as the time comes. Thinking about a trip to Possum Kingdom. Did some searching on the state park there and they have cabins for rent. I think that'll be an interesting trip.

PeeWeeC5, BSB's??

Yeah, we definitely need to lay down some ridin' rules.

1.) I don't stunt. If you stunt. Get away from me.
2.) Don't be a fool around me*
3.) I'm not trying to be stopped by the PoPo's
4.) If you want to break the sound barrier. Pull out, away from the group, wave by-by and get after it.
5.) We will AVERAGE 70-80mph Not too slow, not too fast.
6.) Have fun (unless, to you, having fun means being a fool) In that case. DO NOT have fun.
7.) Don't be a fool around me*
8) don't be a fool and endanger someone's life.

*All fools will be swiftly kicked in the tail by me at the next scheduled stop.

Man, you need to start doing some of the weekend rides with the guys on here. I know what you mean though, I've been where you are and it takes a while to build up to riding long distances. We do plan on taking frequent pit stops for pictures, fuel, and smoke breaks for me :D

Do you not have a riding jacket? Please get something to protect your hide while riding ASAP. Hell, you can pick up a cheapy Fieldsheer mesh jacket for $100 locally. Make sure you have some good gloves to.

yeah i know need a jacket, the jacket has been high on the to-buy list since i bought the bike. only bad thing is the past 3 weekends, i have been very busy racing and those are the best times for me to purchase stuff. also the races were major 3-4 day events... which means no $$$$ from work.

i ordered the joerocket ballistic 4.0 , not a super sporty/leather deal. i want something more touring (the style riding in am currently doing) has tons of pockets, water proof. etc. and some armor type stuff. ordered it from a buddy in calif. 179$ and free fed ex!(hope they dont treat me like andrew)... local yamaha shop wanted 240!!!

if i start riding more aggressive then i will consider a leather style jacket.

so i just now need advice on good type of riding gloves.

The day after I fell is when my kevlar/leather jacket arrived in the mail.

Shit happens, be prepared for it whether you ride agressive or not.

I would have opted for the leather jacket. There are several stores offering closeout prices on some of the Fieldsheer leathers and I picked mine up for $200. It's a little heavier and warmer than a mesh but will defintely stand up better in the even of a drop. Might consider buying one once you start doing more riding, you never know when you are going to fall and your body and skin are defintely worth the extra investment. I want to get the leather pants next :D

No, I need a copy of Microsoft Streets and Trips to accurately get the distance and unfortunately I lost that last month when I formatted my laptop and I can't find the copy I have :( I'll see what I can do but I'm guess roughly about 300 miles.

The map is not showing because of the hosting directory, I'll get that fixed a little later. The station is next to a Harley Davidson shop and you'll also see a Waffle House. I can't think of the name of the station either and none of the maps are showing the station. Anyone near that area that can swing by and get the name, it'd be appreciated.

I'm thinking about 10 riders. We are probably looking at being back around 6 or 7 so there will be some night riding involved.

OK, kick stands up at 12:30. I can be reached at the number below. Hope to have a good turnout and a great ride.

Yeah, the school bus was ahead of 6 or 7 cars and we were behind the cars. Could have passed them once or twice, but maybe half would have made it, the others would have been stuck.

evil jose

I had a blast on our first road trip. The pace wasn't to fast, almost not to slow ;) Traffic can sometimes be a bitch but I'd rather ride with it rather than risk an accident/ticket. We had a pretty good size group, what was it??? Like 12-13 bikes? Does that sound right? Sorry I don't remember everybody's name/screen name but hopefully as we ride more often I'll know you by sight.

Anyway, here are some of the pictures I took. My cousin took a couple but I wound up deleting a bunch that were just to blurry.

Here are the first three from our starting point at the Conoco gas station.

10-18-2004, 12:54 AM
Our lunch stop at the Hard Eight BBQ in Stephenville. I decided on this stop based on other motorcycle trips I've read about. Not a bad place, great variety of meat and they weigh out your food and charge you by the pound. Interesting concept as you can mix and match what you want rather than getting stuck with a particular plate. Next time I want to try some Quail. Oh, and they were serving free beer. Being one not to turn down free beer I had to have one cup :D

And our final destination. Dublin, TX and the Dr. Pepper plant. We barely made it here on time after a gas station incident with OneBadWagon :D

Bought a case of original forumula Dr. Pepper with Pure Cane Sugar ($16!) and a Frosty Pepper which was pretty damn good and I had a good sugar rush going :D

I'm down with that! BIKER BOYZ!!!!! LOL! Seriously though, I think it's great that we are going these roadtrips. I tried to hook up with another group of riders but it was to complicated. They wanted to "meet me" on one of there rides before I could even register as a member on the board. Just didn't feel right. I wanted to get to know these guys before going out riding with them. Oh well, I think what we have here is better ;)

As far as gas, don't sweat it. The trip was a lot shorter that I thought it would be and the Supercrew used a little less than half a tank of gas so it wasn't bad at all.

ELVIS, awesome bike man. I love the look plus the sound of the V-Twin through those Yosh cans. Very unique!

I should have offered this JC but you took off so fast. You could have just rode behind us or my truck and followed us up 67 and let us clear the traffic for you. You should seriously think about buying some sun glasses and just wearing a clear shield unless you know for certain that you will be back before dark. I actually like riding that way better as I can open my shield at low speeds and still have reasonable eye protection from debris and bugs.
