Well it is that time to get some tires for the R6. I was thinking of going with a 120/70/17 up front and a 190/50/17 for the back. As for the brand I am not sure. What brands of you people had luck with? A friend is trying to talk me into a Maxis I think but have never heard of them. Any suggestions?

And where do I get these at?
Don't say the track............... :D
I would look into getting a set of Avon's. My buddy has them on his GSXR1K and loves them.

first off, stick with the 180. Second, i definately recomend Metzler Sportec M1s. They are the best for your dollar IMO

Race take offs
If you are low on cash you can buy race take offs for a pretty reasonable price at Garage-Mahall (http://www.garage-mahall.com) if they have the size you want in stock.

Garage-Mahall (http://www.garage-mahall.com), there in Corinth.

I just ordered a 180 rear tire Metzeler M1 from Discount Motorcycle Tire.com (http://www.discountmotorcycletire.com/) for about $120 shipped to my house. Pretty tough price to beat and Garage-Mahall (http://www.garage-mahall.com) will mount them for $20 a tire.

If you do any type of cornering, I've heard race take offs are not a good tire. They hot lap them and wear alot of the outer tread off.

buddy of mine had some bridgestone bto 14's and got about 7k miles out of them... he said they are real sticky and corner like a bitch... that is what im going for next :D

i've never seen or heard of a tire that will hook like mad, and last 7k miles on the rear of a sportbike.

Race take offs are fine for cornering i used them canyon riding alot, however they dont last long at all because they are really soft. I've been using the dunlop 208's and been doing alot of cornering and stuntint and they hold up great until you get about 3/4 through it then they are horrible for cornering but still great for stunting! Oh and stay with the same sized tire your bike came with or as close as you can. DONT go to a 190 on the rear on a 600! Depending on your type of riding it could mess you up. If it were your stunt bike then it might help a little because it would give you a wider tread path so it would be easier to balance but for a daily rider bike it can throw off your cornering if your aggresive.

Well stock for the front is 120/60/17 and the rear is 180/55/17. Should I go with a 120/70/17 for the front even though it is not stock? There are some guys o9n the R6 forums that are saying the 70's give you better handling. Opinions?

they may be saying to go with a 70 series tire because it probably gives you a rounder profile, which might be helpful for handling, but you never answered me.

70 is a good front tire. but you have to adjust your suspension up front to accomidate it

Mainly cruise, but the urges to take the corners fast are settling in. I just keep going a little faster and faster around some of our back roads.

I was reading in Sport Rider Magazine last night that the new R6 goes with a 120/70-ZR17 in the front now. The change was made because the bike was "twitchy" and the 70 tire helped make the ride more stable or something like that. Just thought I'd mention that.

I have 6800 miles on my stock battleaxs. I corner them too. Its not like a putt around. Might only go another 500 miles but I think they are pretty good. Stay with the 180 Brandon if you want to drag the knee. But you still havn't gotten that tire all the way down to the edge. :p

Well I think the nylon in the middle will cover that one. And the seperating tire up front will cover the front.
