After a 14 year hiatus from riding I decided it was time to buy a bike. I like the styling of the current 600's but the 8000+ price was a little more than I wanted to spend so I got an ex250 ninja instead for 2899.
So far I've put 1250 miles on it and have had more racing opportunities than I ever did in the 25000+ miles of riding I did back in the late 80's.
The first one happened at legacy and 75. A kid in a Z28 pulled out from the racetrack station and romped on it right as I was about to cruise past. He had his head cocked slightly left looking in his mirror at me while keeping the rpm's up.
Another guy from the same area on a sportbike kept looking back at me like he was waiting for me to gun it.
Then when I was eastbound exiting GB at jupiter I had a guy looking at me as he flew by and popped a wheelie. Maybe he was just wanting to ride together.
Finally last night around 3am northbound on Jupiter in plano a truck/suv pulled up and some surfer dude with no shirt on kept telling me I had a cool crotch rocket.
I kept telling him that its only a 250 but he insisted it was a crotch rocket. Maybe he just liked saying crotch??
Well times definately seemed to have changed regarding peoples attitudes towards bikes. When I rode before I only remember one instance of somebody taking an interest in what I was doing when another guy on a bike was asking about the windshield on my bike. Now it seems people feel free to say stuff to you just because your on a bike. Of course it could have something to do with me riding at 3am. Anyways, everybody stay safe and happy riding.

guess I do not give off that I want to race vibe....put 13,000 miles on it and have not raced a single random person.....I really do not look to "street race" anyway...

First off, congrats on the bike purchase and on deciding to get back into riding. Is it a new 250? Why not get a used 600?
I've been fortunate that I've only had one group of "kids" screwing around with me on the highway one night on the way home. Kinda scary as whatever I did they would mimic including exiting the highway and jumping back on. They finally gave up or I lost them, one or the other. Anyway, I try not to fall into the trap of having someone instigate me into street racing. Ride safe.

i've only had one street race, and it was uninstigated.

.
It's a new 250 that I got from Irving Kawasaki. I didn't buy a used 600 from an individual because most people won't take visa. I didn't look at getting a used 600 from a dealer because I didn't have any gear and I wanted to spend as little as possible. I ended up paying 3500 otd for the bike and 690 for helmet, jacket, gloves, and boots. Total is probably less than what I would have had to pay for a used 600 with no gear. I did see a used green 250 which would have been cheaper than new but I didn't really care for the green as much as I thought I would when I saw it in person.
For only 4190 spent I feel that if I wreck the bike and totally hate riding in a year that it wasn't that big of an investment and I can live with it. I'd be kicking myself in the ass if I'd have spent twice that and didn't enjoy riding.

Totally understand. And yes buying gear is a big investment and part of the cost of the bike IMO. Any pics? So what is the top speed on it and how is the pickup (acceleration)?

Top speed?? Well I know it will show 100 on the dial. I've heard people say top speed anywhere from 105-110 though I think anything over 100 is a bonus.
Acceleration is pretty good through 2nd, but there isn't much there after 70.
This is the color I got.

dude hit that thing up in the twists at TMS..I see dudes go out there and rip apart liter bikes with 250s...in "theory" they are suppost to be the best bikes for twists...with weight to power ratio

When I can waste a couple grand I'd like to buy a 250 as a toy, maybe learn how to 12 on it :) i suppose it could double as a bike for the lady too.

How does a 250 beat liter bikes in the twisties when they have a hard time reaching 100 mph. They aren't that much lighter if any. Power to weight ration a liter bike smokes a 250.

I'm pretty sure the 250's that are beating liter bikes are 250 2 stroke gp bikes. The ex250 ninja is a 16-17 year old design with a suspension better suited to someone weighing less than 120lbs.
