If you ride like me, you're on your bike every day, I put about 700-1000 miles a month on my bike. It is my prefered daily driver, especially with the weather lately. But I have a question. How many of you agree with me? A LOT of time us riders are going faster than traffic in order to not get hit from behind, or clipped when some dumb ass changes lanes while talking on his/her cell phone!! We can see what is in front of us, but I'm not one who looks in my mirrors a lot (I do own a ZX10R tho, and the mirrors on it are useless, but i know what my elbows look like in my jacket :) ) I ride faster than traffic for safety the majority of the time, people don't see you, so i try to go around them and get in their field of vision so they know i'm there. Dunno, just wanted to know if anyone else rode this way.

that's the way you have to ride.

you can be RIGHT next to the drivers window, with a fucking neon jacket, waving both your arms and doing cartwheels on the seat, and some idiots won't see you before trying to change lanes.

I do the same thing....and if people cut me off I make sure I blind them with my brights ..I figure ..now you can see me : ) ...then they get back over and realized they have be owned by the r6 ;p ...I know in Cali ..motorcycle law legally allowd cycles to go faster then traffic...I am not sure if that is here or not

When I was first riding I would take the long way to my desitnation through back roads with little traffic. Last thing I needed with learning to ride was some cellphone talking moron thinking they were the only person on the road ruining my day.

In ftraffic, i'd go faster and slower than traffic....what ever put my the farthest away from the morons was how I chose. You can out-acellerate and out-brake every car/truck on the road. Going faster isn't always the solution, because you make the safety margin for yourself smaller.

But, diff strokes, diff folks.

I try to stay the same speed as long as there isn't a whole lot of cars. If I come up on one I roll into the throttle and get around it pretty fast so they cant take me out. I have been riding for 2 months and already have almost been ran over by some chick in a black mercedes talking on her cell phone and a freaking motor home.

you cannot out brake every car on the road, unless i'm mistaken,

i tend to go faster than everyone else just because it is more fun, but it also keeps the idiots off of my ass and away from my side.

Put a car and a bike next to each other and the bike will stop in a shorter distance than the car every time.

Just doing some quick research on the web I found this:

Average Sportbike stopping distances @ 60mph
Front brake only: 151ft
Rear brake only: 289ft
Both brakes: 146ft

Average Car stopping distances @ 60mph : 271ft

Yeah, unless you're in an exotic car, the bike wil stop WAY faster than the car.

some of those "exotics" will stop short of 120 feet from 60mph.

I will ride a bit above speed limit unless i get in alot of traffic....i will give it some gas and try to get ahead so i can have plenty of space. I dont care to ride next to any cars for any amount of time.

Sometimes I'll go faster than the traffic but, I will get in a mood and just cruise in the far right lane. But whenever I see, cars congregating around me I get out of there. I never ride close to groups of cars. You gotta watch other cars. When I'm moving along at a good clip in the left lane and the car in front of me in the next lane is coming up on a car in front of them, I anticipate that they are gonna jump into my lane. So, I ease up on the throttle. And wait to see if they see me. I don't care to get there faster than everyone else. I just want to get there, in one piece! I check my mirrors alot. I like to know who's around me, so I'll always have an escape route.
