I currently have 2 desktops and one laptop. Cable Internet, Netgear wireless router (802.11b I think). An internal wireless card in 1 desktop and a wireless PCMCIA card in the laptop. I can only get a usable signal to about the sidwalk. The other desktop was hard wired. I bought a house across the street and want the non wireless desktop to reach there but I don't know what I need. I thought about buying a card for starters for the wired desktop but if the laptop can't reach then I guess that's kinda pointless. Do I need to go to a 802.11a or g? Or is there something else. DLink seems to have more products geared for wider wireless networks than Netgear but I don't know what I need. Thanks for any help.

search the net about making a wireless antenna out of a pringles can (cost like $5 bucks to make), There are some howto's and I think one was posted up in this forum a few months back.

my netgear upstairs can send a signal to most of the houses around me including across the street... before waisting time put your access point up in the attic or at least the higest point possible and as close to the street side of the house.

Netgear as well as other manufacturers also sell directional antennas that will help increase the signal strength in a certain direction. I've been toying with the idea myself as my wireless signal doesn't extend much from my bedroom to the far end of the house or the yard and I've been thinking about getting an access point hard wired on the far side of the house to extend it.

Look into something like this if you're attempting to expand yer network to cover the house across the street, directional antenna's are not going to be as effective most of the time.

How much? And will you let me configure it to verify it will work with my Netgear stuff and do what I'm wanting? I'm in Grand Prairie.
