Who's fault do you think it is for the lockout that is going to begin tonight at midnight Eastern?

Greed is killing pro sports in general. Just think if baseball had a cap. The yankees would be cellar dwellers

fucking owners need to get their head out their asses and stop that salary cap shit. The players union said no, so the owners need to find another way to survive. Fucking shit, I just moved here hoping to see tons of Stars games and now this crap

I think there should be more performance based salaries rather than lump sums each year. I mean Mike Modano is one of the top Centers in the league and is tops in pay but he only had 14 goals last season. That is horrible for his caliber of play. Doesn't look like there is going to be any resolution soon either. :(

I like to go to the games and watch the roughness up close.

it's the owners fault it got this far out of hand, their the ones writing the fat checks to the players.

Yep.
A salary cap is ridiculous in my opinion. All it did for the NFL is make all the teams mediocre and those that are good, are only good for a couple of seasons. What they need is individual caps. Say a player can only make X amount of dollars a year and then increase that every year. Have a figure that they can top out at instead.

Well, it became official last night. They are saying that it could last all of this season and even go into next season. What a bunch of whores!

What I don't understand is that Hockey Tickets are one of the most expensive tickets in Sport, and yet they play the longest season?

Why in the hell are they having problems?

Basketball is just as long now since they went to all 7 game series. The reason the tickets are more is because they have the highest base salary out of any major sports.

A cap is a bad idea, but there needs to be something done. I like a bonus for certain things. Goals, assists, making the playoffs, winning the cup, etc. The price of the ticket doesn't matter, that doesn't begin to cover the costs of the teams. It is about the size of the market, tv audience, sales, large companies involved in sponsorships. That is why some of the northeast teams have been in money trouble (sabres, pens). Not because they are over-spending on their players, but because the market for their team is too small. Look for Houston to have a team, and possibly the sabres and/or pens folding/moving when this is all said and done. The Canadian teams will stay put, no matter how much money trouble they are in. Yes, this is really long, but with no hockey to watch or play tonight, I have nothing to do!

I wonder how Mario feels, seeing he is a player/owner.

I wonder how Mario feels, seeing he is a player/owner.

He commented the other day on ESPN. He' seemed like he was on the fence. He realized that the game needs to be played and not be locked out but the smaller market teams are gettting killed e.g. The Penguins. I was really looking forward to being able to see some hockey again but its just not to be. :(

The only real sport left in this country is now the latest to fall victim to American greed. Now I say "real sport" because until now, it was the only sport left that still had the player's passion to play for the cup instead of a paycheck as priority one. The owners are losing money, but they are writting the checks, and they still make more than me, the fan. So I don't see the argument. :)

The bottom line, no matter the argument, is that they are screwing over the most important people in the entire world of sports; the fans. Therefore I could care less if they all go broke, because now I have a useless big screen!

Screw this, I'm moving to Canada............
