Since no one has mentioned it yet it's probably time to start discussing how the racing will occur - what kind of groupings (heads up, power adder, N/A, bracket, ford vs. the world, etc) do we want? Probably need to also start posting up yer grudge races, and maybe someone can compile a list of them somewhere.

Personally i'd be up for a little bracket racing since i'm not fast enough to beat any of the big boys heads up.

Has anyone thought of index racing?? At least there is no staggered tree you leave at the same time. You can have as many classes as you want.

For example you can have 8.0 to 9.0 or split it up say 8.5 to 9.0; 8.0 to 8.49; 7.5 to 7.99 and so on. You can make the index anything you want you just can't go faster than the class you are in.

This way you have no need for a Bracket &Heads up class.

Just a thought.

How about something like the Ford vs Buick event, yet make it Ford vs all the other types of cars on this site. Something type of heads up event; to me it would be a lot more fun than another gay bracket race. Just get some time trials in to match the cars up than go from there. Maybe it won't work, but it would add some fun to the event.

You'll have Fords in every class I'm sure.

It would be heads up at the tree and it would match similar cars for the best races! No need for a bracket and a heads up class and 10.5 tire class etc. Less confusion!

One of the goals of this event is to get as many people as possible from dfwstangs to participate.

Your own personal view of heads up racing probably has a lot to do with how fast your car runs (or not).

If this turns into a primarily heads up event I think a lot of people will bypass. Why spend the $10 to know you'll probably lose in the first round if you are running a slower car?

So, my opinion is that we need a "fair" class for some people and heads up for the rest.

I know some of ya'll have the "run whatcha brung" view and that's fine. Not everyone is on the fastest lists; these people will be looking for something else to have some fun.

If ya'll can figure some groupings that are fair and fun for everyone - slow or fast - then let's hear it.

The problem I see with an index race is that the guy running at the bottom of an index group is a lot happier than the guy running at the top of it. 7.50 beats 7.80 every time.

Gay or not I think a bracket race might have a place at this event for a lot of people.

I'm guessing that given the amount of time available we'll be able to run time trials and maybe two types of races - Mike (BFL) - can you confirm this?

The problem I see with an index race is that the guy running at the bottom of an index group is a lot happier than the guy running at the top of it. 7.50 beats 7.80 every time.

Gay or not I think a bracket race might have a place at this event for a lot of people.

I'm guessing that given the amount of time available we'll be able to run time trials and maybe two types of races - Mike (BFL) - can you confirm this?

I couldn't agree more. Not to mention you can't please everyone. Like stated above the main goal is to have a BIG GTG at the TRACK and get some of the
long-standing grudge races out of the way and settled once and for all.
I also agree that everyone will get plenty of passes (providing you dont do 302PAF style cool downs - sorry Kirk had to do it) and even get a chance to partcicipate in some sort of bracket racing.

How about this :
Bracket racing with a TWIST... everyone runs on a dial in. Instant Green. This way it will rule out all of the pro-bracket racer types... and it will rely more on the car ??

I'm thinking a bracket race with a sportsman tree and heads up with random pairing.

If you believe in the heads up run whatcha brung then put it on the line :)

Brackets should also be no electronics for the spirit of the cruise (fun). Trans brakes OK if triggered by the driver. Win it on your own mad driving skilz.

Hard to police this rule though.

Now this is seriously debatable - I have a two step (as do many others that will be there) on the brake - this is considered by many as electronics, even though it is not timed - but released by the driver.

You will get time trials for sure...Understand a guy that runs 7.90s is better on the tree than the guy that runs the 7.60....Reaction in this slow of a class is gonnabe the decider. Not whos car is faster. trust me on this. It happens every friday night. The slower of middle of the field car wins alot more then they lose.

The class breaks could be setup for instance based on safety equipment.:

Examples:

8.60 and slower get a bracket race.
7.50-8.59 index
6.40-7.49 index
5.40-6.39 index

THese are examples i dont remember all the safety requirements or all the breaks after 6.39 but the ones before hand im pretty positive on ;)

8.60 and slower really doesnt have any rules per say. Long as the car is somewhat complete and driveable...etc no missing lugs, etc.

Thats why there wasnt a class for them folks except for bracket style.

Run in FnG then...If you want to run the classes run them...FnG will still be going on. Pick an opponent and race him. I think its more then fair on whats going on....Even if its faster then 8.60 and you dont want to run the index classes you can run in the bracket or run FnG...I think its pretty simple to be honest. Mikeim getting real tired of all these events geared for fast cars when the people running them think a high 7 isnt fast. to me that is damn fast, and better then what most of the people here run if they would be honest, im just standing up for the lil guy since no one else will speak up. if you run 8.59 you have to wear a helmet, big deal

all im saying is i wish the who event was FnG so we could all race as much as we want with time allowed and not get delayed by waiting on other classes coming to the line, or getting knocked out of a class by losing a race and not being able to make any more passes cuz the other classes are already started. if this is our event then it should be pretty easy to line similar cars up together to a common sense of degree. the rest should just be grudge matches that line up in the lanes and tell the guy that they want to race each other.

if you are a dork and have a 7 second car and say, line me up to that stock GT then fine, but dont let the GT not race again becuz it got beat,

this GTG would be alot more fun if it wasnt a race type event that means if you lose the race you are done for the day. its should be fun for everyone and since there are more 8.60 and slower cars on this site than any other class combined, the event should be geared for the slower people so more DFWstangers show up. why is this so important to me?

cuz many people want to run true street but dont want to put up with all the BS like having to stand by your car for 6hours and only making 2 runs. So instead i am considering this event my FFW race. and i think alot of other dfwstangers with street cars would too.

call that crying if you want, im just telling you the point of view for the majority of dfwstang members, we are just it for fun, not for a competition, and want to be able to have a good time racing with our friends whether they are faster or slower.

Does the minority always get met on their needs? The answer is a simple no. Because it seems to me that you are the only one speaking for the said group you talk about...

On the other hand, we are throwing out suggestions on how we want to run this race.

Me personally could give a crap less on how many runs i get. As long as i get in my few races im happy. Then again, some folks dont like to sit by their car all day long and watch bracket racers or slower cars either.

This is how i would run the race if it was me running the show:

-Bracket race for any car
-FnG
-King of DFWStangs race. Fastest 8 cars show down in a quick 8 type race, with a sportsman tree, bracket style or heads up. Its however the majority of the group wants to race it. Heads up or Brackets. Its easy for us to set up the computer to do so.

that is becuz the slower members dont post as much and some are scared to speak up for themselves cuz you would beat them by at least 2 seconds in the 1/8mile, i dont give a shit if i look like this lil mouse trying to race with the big cats, as long as i get to race, im just speaking up for the lil guy. as long as there is a FNG for any car, then i think it will solve all problems.

Mike I am gonna have to agree with you on this one. Not everyone will be pleased no matter what. We are going the extra mile to arrange this so that most everyone will be happy and have a good time.

index sounds the same as bracket to me with seperate classes for each ET class.

The thing about an index race is that the cars racing run similar numbers so the racing is closer - ie: no 10 second cars lined up against 7 second cars and a 3 second head start. Of course, in a bracket you pick your number and in an index the number is chosen for you.

You could make a bracket race more interesting by lining the cars up in the staging lanes by how fast they are dialed in - make a lane for 6 and faster, 7's, 8's, and 9-> slower (or whatever). The guy working the lane would pull cars that are close in ET. This would tighen up the racing while still using a bracket format.

It seems to me on an index race that a lot of people will try sandbagging back into the next higher index (ie: slowing down) to try to be competitive (?)

Personally i'm down for whatever format the board wants to do.

. which is exactly why i think the index is un fair if you want a competition, it should just be fun and grudge, otherwise you could have guys that run mid 7sevens all day sand bag and pretty much rule the 8second index, so whats the solution? someone like me to sandbag and rule the 9second index? and the cycle continues. people need to go run flat out, you dont see people on the street sandbagging to win a class, why should it be different at our event? if its fun and grudge you can get lined up against anyone and not care if they are faster/slower, or line up with a guy in the lanes and tell the flagman you want to race someone that is right beside you.

see my point? damn here i go again.

BFL, turbostang - can ya'll chime in on this? if these are the choices i'll post a poll.

I'll have to say Brackets.. becuase if it were done with index's there would be alot of sandbaggers and therefore the whining would be heavy aftwerwards.. at least with brackets everyone has a chance - slow or fast.

Not always true.... Index racing you could knock off the faster "7.50" guy running in the "8.00" class if you yourself were already running low 8's ~ thus forcing the faster guy to possibly break out. However, for those stuck running mid-8's, it's a whole lot harder to speed up vs. slowing down.

Aww crap.. mikeb's idea sounds best. :)

Have both. A few good index slots. 6.40, 7.00, 7.60 on a .500 pro tree, and a normal bracket race. Setting it up so people can run both would be EXTRA cool. ;):)

Have you ever participated in an index race? Its way more competitive then you think. The only major LS1 event i went to last year i ran the 12 sec index. I never slowed my car down at the end. I added a few pounds to the car and stayed in it all the way through. Most of the cars in the 12 sec index were running 12.50 or faster and it was all a close race. I had all the cars covered on mph by 3-7 mph on all my opponents though. If you've never raced in an index style class you can knock it. Ill take index racing over bracket horse shit ANYDay!

It's not really an open track day for everyone but if you know someone that would like to come out and run that should be OK.

What we don't want is 400+ cars there with only 75 of them belonging to members.
