The best way to learn to ride is to get an older, used, and cheap 600cc bike of some kind for your first. If you start out on an R1, chances are you will end up hurting yourself and/or tearing up a brand new bike.

do the 600's with exhaust on them sounds realgood? i heard a pack last nite going down some country roads by the driving range i was at. its quiet out there so you could hear the bikes and listening to that exhaust when they opened it up sounded good...but i dunno if they were 600's or liter bikes?

Wow! Welcome to the board! Didn't realize we had someone from down South. I'd love to get a dual purpose bike and do some cross country riding. I was reading in another forum about a group of guys that went cross country on some old trails there were used by earlier settlers travelling west. They had a bunch of pictures and I thought it was cool as shit to go riding like that and having to camp out at night. Not sure how the manged fuel though but I'm guessing the planned there stops around small towns or something.

I was out your way a few weeks ago for my uncles funeral and got to take a different route than I normally do but the highway escapes me at the moment. Normally I would take 35 all the way down to Laredo and then 83 down to Roma. Stay cool down there.

Mines stock with a 7.4 gallon tank, so I've got 330+ mile range. Fuel has never been a problem. One of my brothers bikes, also pictured, a BMW has a 10 gallon tank.
I've been riding long enough that I know Cruisers look great, but they're not good for much more than that. Sportbikes perform better than 95% of their owners have any business playing with, so I found and am sticking with my "niche", the Dual Sports. So much fun to be able to play off road.

Nope wrong guy, he has a pearl black ZX10R, yes my bike is his old one, and I like it dropped... I think stock ride heighth bikes look tarded, and when I saw his, I was beside myself to buy it when I found out it was for sale. I am going to lift it up an inch when I start carrying my girl with me, but for now it's staying on the ground. I think it looks bad ass, and everyone who has seen it agrees they look much better lowered.

Nay Nay, I don't go around turns, this is Dallas for christ's sake, not the mountains in Northern CA where I learned to drive. One mistake there and you were off a 300 foot cliff on some of the roads. :D I didn't buy it to throw a knee down, I wanted to learn to ride, and then drag it. It is set up for dragging imo, it is almost impossible to get the tire to come up over about 2 inches. :)

Jose, if you are interested, I can post pics as soon as I get some, maybe tomorrow or so. I think you should lower it, at least an inch, it makes it look much better!

LMFAO, it is ALL the way down, I can't go over speed bumps... With me on it, there is about one finger's clearance between the ground and the rear 6 inches of the lower fairing in front of the tire... It has a 2 and a 3 inch adjustable dogbone, and it's on the 3 inch setting right now. I am going to switch it to the 2 inch when I start taking my g/f wit me, because with us both on it, it is about 1/8 inch off the ground, and that is going to destroy the fairing in short work. I haven't hit the ground yet, so so far so good. :)

I'll get you pics asap, I think you will like it.

Chris asked me to go to Midnight madness with a bunch of people last week, but I didn't get off work in time. Actually I did, but the bike is in Farmer's branch at my girl's, so I would have had to ridden up there by myself, and I was not down with that. I haven't gotten many miles on it, just around 120 or so, all around the neighborhood. I did ride it to her house which is about 22 miles, but that is the furthest I have been from my house at one time. I am still getting the hang of it, and launching it scares the shit out of me. I can shift the fuck out of it though, so I hope it will still go some high 7s with a lame ass launch. :(

Yea Greg, I love that damn bike, I have so much fun just cruising around on it, and then just lean over and hit 100 in about 4 seconds then slow down and cruise again... :D This shit is worse than a drug!

You guys should consider coming up to a Professional Motorcycle Racers Association race at Thunder Valley Raceway sometime. Theres a great street E.T class and theres a Streetbike Shootout class as well.
Its a blast and they usually have the stunters out for a show or two each year.
six second 200+ MPH funnybikes, Low 8 second and 175 MPH Pro Street bikes.
Anyone with any interest in bikes will find something they like.

I have an '01 SV650S, not the fastest bike but fun as hell and a blast in the corners. Top speed on it is only about 132mph, I tried to push it past that but couldn't. I have ridden all of my buddies bikes which consisit of: '01 and '04 Gixxer 1K, '02 Busa, '03 954, '99 TL1000R, '01 Gixxer 750 and an '04 ZX10R. The fastest one in stock trim was the ZX10R, but the '01 Gixxer 1K was lowered and strapped with an extended swing arm, it had a big bore kit installed and was 1 up 2 down on the sprockets, you could launch at about 9500-10K rpm and just leave like a bullet without worrying about keeping the front end down.
