I heard an argument that Kerry is trying to court the people who would like his War Hero status and those who would like his Anti-War Hero status.
Talk about trying to get the best of both worlds!

He had the guts to go, and therefore he had every right to to come back and speak out against it. I don't know that he's a hero on either account, but he has principals. Vietnam was a wrong war you know. It served no good purpose.
Kerry plays both sides of the fence, he's for AND against about everything.

I fought in Desert Storm and a couple other conflicts while on active duty but can't say I agree with war in general. I do feel those who have never been under fire have a hard time understanding just how tragic this event is from the first person point of view. War is a thing a soldier hopes never happens but pulls their duty to deter it. Children loose parents, siblings loose siblings and parents have to put children in the ground. As for Iraq, I have little love or pride in a war I do not see as prudent. Afghanistan is prudent but is not being fought effectively.

yea, it sucks, but they volunteered for that duty.
They weren't drafted, nor held at gunpoint, nor under any form of duress.
You dont see it as prudent because W agrees with it...but then again, so did HRC, Clinnochio, Daschle, Kerry, and a host of other libs.

Would you come back to America and denounce, in a blanket statement, the soldiers fighting there as people who have comnmitted atrocities? Then comfort the enemy by saying how wrong our country was while there are prisoners of war in the hands of that enemy?
If you think that is acceptable, please explain why it is not treason.

That's true, but isn't it kind of funny that the same people back here in the states who talk about how just this war is won't go see the recruiter? If you REALLY believed in it wouldn't you join up and go serve?

Err...no?
Err...no?
Does that person really believe in it then? If you are not willing to give up your own life, then why is it ok to talk about acceptable losses of American Soldiers?
I watch alot of people on this board talk about how Bush is so great and this war is so justified, and they are so patriotic, yet these people don't go visit their recruiter it just sort of amazes me. Before you mention it I know that YOU DID go visit your recruiter.

I wasn't speaking for me at all...
What about someone who can't join the military? Someone who is too young, too old, not in physical shape to handle the stresses of combat or combat support? What about the simple fact that the military is not for everyone? I think you can fundamentaly support a government's actions and/or policies without becoming personally involved. I think the rationale in your comment is...well, simply lacking...:)

Sorry to bust your bubble, but I actually think that Bush is the better choice over Kerry, as I don't want to see our troops controlled by the UN.
Oh yeah that recruiter said he still hasn't heard from you........oh that's right it's not your "passion" and your fighting the war by paying your taxes

Hate to burst your bubble, but I already served my country and now I have a wife, and a good job, so I dont feel the need to talk to your buddy recruiter. And trust me, even if I wanted to or felt a need to go see a recruiter, it wouldnt be anybody you know or claim to know ;) Ummkay? So I guess you can contine your unrational argument

Allow me to retort. Served 8 years in the Marines. Funny how most of the people who served with Kerry think he is unfit for command.

I can't tell if its me, or if its www.sss.gov, but I could have sworn that the Selective
Service requires you to register if you are between ages 18 and 25, not 18-45. I think its just me.

Doesn't matter, his service in the Marines is just as honorable even if he didn't get shot at. He volunteered to serve his country, and if the situation required it, would have done his duty, even if he would have got shot at.

Right before Sept 11, I was fucking around on base with my fellow jarheads and I was getting my ass kicked at basketball(I'm white) when I saved the ball while ripping my arm out of socket. A gunny put my arm back in and sent me to the doc.....thus endeth my military career. Fortunately, I was so close to getting out, I got honorably discharged instead of on a medical. Anybody who has ever pulled targets in the pits in bootcamp has been in a war zone.

Here is what I got from the Selective Service:
"If and when the Congress and the President reinstate a military draft, the Selective Service System would conduct a National Draft Lottery to determine the order in which young men would be drafted.
The lottery would establish the priority of call based on the birth dates of registrants. The first men drafted would be those turning age 20 during the calendar year of the lottery. For example, if a draft were held in 1998, those men born in 1978 would be considered first. If a young man turns 21 in the year of the draft, he would be in the second priority, in turning 22 he would be in the third priority, and so forth until the year in which he turns 26 at which time he is over the age of liability. Younger men would not be called in that year until men in the 20-25 age group are called."
