Well there could be alot of stuff going on there to make the amp do that.. First do you have the right gage wire. Power and Ground.. Second is the amp mono'd if so what ohm load do you have going into it... If you try to bridge it down to low the amp will get very hot and go into protection mode.. What subs are you running and what ohms are they and how do you have them wired up.. Are they in parallel or series..
Third the newer rockford amps aren't he greatest out.. I have the older Power 800's and haven't ever really had any problems out of them.. But my mids and high amp does get hot.. never shuts off though..

I wouldnt go that far. First check your ground make sure its grounded good. My brother's amp did the same thing and it ended up being a bad ground. Also make sure that amp has air to flow over it. Fans should not reallly be neaded if they are on the back of a seat or box. Car audio is made to be in a hot car. So long as shit isnt touching the heat sink like a box or trunk carpeting, etc.

they do suck, but chances are that you either have a defective one (unlikely), or that you have done something incorrect when installing it.

at work yesterday we sent one out to service after we pulled it out of his car, no output or input. didnt get detailed enough to figure out which one it was, just enough for us to send it back to fosbreak.

well, if you dont put anything into an amp, you aren't going to get anything out of it.

depends on what store you work at. some supervisors are reputable and due good work and teach their co workers the correct ways. :)

most of the guys that work in the Install bay at best buy, are fresh out of their MECP training, and roaring to go.
that said, in alot of cases, they dont know dick about dick.
i have NEVER talked to anyone who knew anything about audio in the car audio department.
Does Best Buy pay their installers anything? For $7-8 per hour I could understand why their installers would suck. Atleast they do go through MECP training so they should know the difference between power and ground:)
Personally I'd check the speaker impedance or look for a blown woofer, either could drive an amp into protection.

That MECP class is a joke.. I could pass that class with my eyes close.. You would have to be an idiot to fail the test..

yeah its real easy. and they pay us double digits at least ;)

I was just up there at best buy talking to a salesmen about the test...if you can't pass that test then you shoudn't be able to purchase a radio much less install one.

hehe, which store?
hehe, which store?does it really matter, I've talked to most of the install sups and I could out do any of them with my eyes closed. I know danner had to step down from customer complaints. Must be too difficult to do radios in under an hour in an airconditioned shop.
Our XM rep said he was in a best buy and the salesman was telling a customer that "if you want to prevent the XM from cutting off while under a bridge, you need to buy a wired rather than wireless FM modulator."
The MECP tests are not THAT easy and there are many different tests. Basic MECP installer certification has nothing to do with experience or ability.

i can vouch for the stupidity of the denton installers, i had a customer who came to me a few times, and wanted me to fix one of their fuck ups, full pioneer AV in dash, XM, etc.
i sold him a CDRB-20, because that is what he wanted, best buy installed it, and said that it blew because there was no fuse inline with it.
i got another one, and showed him the 3 foot yellow wire with a fuse at the end, and they promptly reimbursed him for the first on.
the whole install looked like a stoned monkey did it.

I worked at best buy for almost 2 years...started in home audio @7/hour, computers, then the soho upgrade center, then car-fi, then transferred to install after they realized I knew what the hell I was doing...I resigned after a time off issue and went to Circuit city to make 4x's the money for 1/2 the work. Those were the good ole days...
highlight of my install days at best buy was when another guy drilled into the gas tank on a then brand new 98 Camaro SS...lmfao....
I had a C4 Vette come in one time with a wood screw shot through the fuel line under the passenger side kick panel. That was an expensive repair! It wasn't even Best Buy that screwed it up.

nah, just put a dab of silicone on every screw before you shoot it. prevention is better than a cure.
;)
