When I do preacher curls I sometimes get a shooting pain down my wrist and forearm both during the rep and when releasing the bar. Occaisonally it will linger and show up when pressure is applied to the area.
Is the pain the result of splints or just working the muscles and tendons in my forearm while curling?
Straight or EZBar? Might be a a little pinching of the carpal tunnel nerves in the wrist.
If you change your grip does the pain stay or go away?

EZ bar. It really never happened with this bar until I started getting into heavier weights (90lbs currently). Straight bars killed me from the beginning.
A change in grip will help with the pain, but does not get rid of it entirely.

Pain is part of lifting that much weight. My Lord, 90 lbs on the preacher seat?
You might want to reduce the weight 10 or 15 lbs for a couple of weeks and see if the pain goes away. Sharp and shooting pain while lifting is counter productive and will do you some long-term damage.
Good luck and you must be a hoss of a human!

if the pain is in ur wrist and down to your elbow you may want to be careful. that is how carpal tunnel is.. i know im going to a specialist as we speak of to get rid of mine. you might be pinchin the nerve and it is causing pain. if your fingers tingle or go numb or if your shoulder starts hurting with it you may want to get it checked out.. it could be tendonitis or c.t it will move from wrist to elbow and to shoulder alot

I doubt its carpal tunnel because this only happens when I curl and not during any other type of repetitive activity such as typing or whatnot and it is mostly in my mid forearm. I was kind of misleading saying it was my wrist.
I do find that when releasing the bar, if I hold my grip for a few seconds and then drag my fingers off of it there is not as much pain.

That shit happens to me all the time when I take some time off from lifting heavy. I went to a doctor about it a few years ago and he said it was basically the same as a shin splint. All he recommended was for me to go easy on curls and just deal with it for a while until it went away.

Be careful with that shoulder. Rotator cuff injuries suck serious ass. If you push it too far your looking at 6 months or more without lifting.

I have the same pain. My solution has been to stay away from preacher curls, though I still get the pain when I go really heavy with curls on the ez bar.

I'm glad to read some of this. I thought I was alone. LOL
I've had to stop using an EZ bar and preacher for several months (dumbells only) because of a shooting pain from my elbow when curling.
I think one of the reasons why I am having trouble (and could be for some of you) is due to having my right arm extended alot during the day at work using a mouse. Sometimes I rest weight on my arm and it may be a potential for carpel tunnel. Who knows............ I've been conscious to keep weight off my arm while it's extended and it seems to have helped.
