i was once told that a capacitor is a capacitor no matter what brand name is on it. is there honestly a difference between a lightning audio cap or a fosgate cap? i dont know a lot about car audio but when i can spend 50 or 150 i would rather spend the 50 if there is little to no noticable difference. and out of curiousity is this cacitor any good?

im currently runnin 2 kenwood excelon KAC-X401M amps for my 2 12" infinity subs, and a KAC-X501F for my mids.

there is a slight diff, go with what you really want, I mean you aren't running that much power with those amps so the 50 dollar cap would be ok...of course I paid 60 bucks for each of my digital hooker audio caps...

my amplifiers pull 200 amps. i have 2 4 gauge leads going to my amps. ;)

the sub amps are rated at 1200w@2ohm and the mid amp 600w x 4.

my problem is when i drive the car with the headlights off and the subs hit i can see the voltage on my alternator drop. and the amps low voltage light never shuts off.

sounds like you need to upgrade your alternator more than worry about one cap.

you are going to have to come with some money if you want a high output alternator to make that kind of amps.

a cap wont help you much at all.

in most cases a cap is a cap, although i have heard of some of the high end ones being made in a dust free environment, and that would be a nice thing, but i personally wouldnt give two shits for a cap.

in fact, i have a BRAND NEW 20v Streetwires psc41D sitting in my room that is just gathering dust. 140$ if anyone wants it.

retail is up close to 200$

I'd spend the money on additional batteries, atleast 2 Optimas would support what you are using. If you don't have the stereo cranked constantly the stock alternator might be able to keep up. Iraggi alternator (http://www.iraggialternator.com/cgi-bin/ikonboard/ikonboard.cgi) can build you a 200 amp one for about $400 if you do decide to upgrade but like I said unless you are always blaring the system the stock one should be able to keep up. Their alternators use the stock case and are very well proven on the USACi circuit.
