View Full Version : what class to run at FFW

So what class should I run at FFW this Step?
I think the only choices I have is Fast Ford or True Street.
The car does have tags and inspection. So thats taking care of. To be able t be in True Street I don't think 5 gal fuel cell will make it, so a 10gal I would have to buy. Also tires, I don't own any other tires but slicks. But I have a set of drag lites that I could throw a set of E/T streets on. Oh are e/t street leagl in that class?
And for the Fast Ford class, I wouldn't have to buy a bigger tank or new tires, but I'm still not that good of a bracket racer and I would more than likey go out the first round :( If I can get my new tranny in then I'm all over the bracket racing class, but I don't think that will be in before FFW. Oh and I'm not fast enough to race in any other class. So what do yall think, need some pros and cons here on True Street. '
Thanks Brandon

Same thing happen to me when there's something for an ls1. I can't seem to fit into very many classes and compete. Everyone would kick my ass in every class cause they built there car for it. I build mine to go fast that's bout it. Sucks though when you think bout it

oh another thing bad about the true street, my windows don't roll down (it would be hotter than MOFO in there) for the long bumpy 30 miles. Real tight suspension.

That 30 mile cruise shouldn't be too bad, depending on the weather. The ET Streets are legal, but I've also seen some assholes run with ET Drags and get away with it. I've seen so many rules overlooked like big blocks running, mini-tubbed, ballasts, etc...
The only way you'll get any hassles about the rules is if you run in the top 5 like Josh from J&L Performance did a couple years back. Damn people will always find a way to itch if they're slower. If you can make it in True Street, I'd do it. You can do the brackets the next day for free when you register for True Street. All the other competitive classes are a mutha anyway. There's maybe 3 or so cars that would be competitive in those classes.

True street is such a hassle and waste of time. If I were you I would just run the brackets and enjoy watching the heads up classes.

I heard somwhere that et streets are now illegal. You must use a radial tire. But I could be mistaken, I dont remember if it was FFW or NMRA.

I think I am going to run pro 50 I know I am slower but only 5 cars or so run and most of them break or they dont get a clean pass.

LOL Yeah, that's pretty good odds compared to the other classes like Mod Motor.

This is the way I look at it. Do you want to buy another fuel cell just so you can run in this one race once a year (twice if you go to Houston). Or if you buy the cell will you continue to run it afterwards? If so, then don't look at that as a negative. As far as I know ET streets are still leagal but if there is any doubt I can check that out and get the staight scoop on that buy the end of the day from George Klass. If they are still legal then they would be a good investment because if you want to run in some of the steet classes at K-Dale then you will need them. As far as your windows on the cruise what is keeping them from working? There may be ways around that as well depending on what the problem is. Since you get to race brackets on Sunday when you sign up for True Street I say run that. You never know you may win a class and if you don't at least you got to make 3 passes plus however far you can go in the brackets on Sunday. Hope that helps your decision.

im not that good of a bracket racer either, but the last 2 years ive made it 4 rounds each year. so its luck of the draw, and being able to cut a decent light. ive learned most of the mustang guys dont do that very well. cause i sure dont.

Run True Street B, I am going to take my car and run it on the 17"s in T/S, just for fun... It'll still go low 11s on the Nittos, but I am going to be all over the brakes at the 1,000 foot. :D
Unless I get a cage, I will be gunning for the 12.0 bracket...

BLK306 - well for the windows not working they are electirc windowns, but have been totally gutted inside the door panel. No wires or anything, so they are stuck up for now.
Andrew - Renegade, I can't run with those guys. Aren't those guys running in the 8's? Heck I'm just wanting to get a mid 10 out of mine :D
lee earley - Well I have to run the Fast Ford class if I did the brackets , casue of the transbrake. I ran last year and went out 1st round Sat and Sunday.

To win True Street in Dallas, it's usually in the high 8sec range. I forget his name, but he's from Houston. He didn't win last year due to some complication's, but he is always a threat to win. If your in the mid 10's, you might as well aim for the 11.0 class....maybe run a good mid 10 and then take it easy the rest of the way so that your average is around 11.0 imo.

If you took the door panel off could you move it up and down by hand?

well I know I'm not looking to win T/S. Heck I know Brooks is suppose to be out there and he already has me beat pretty good. But how is T/S ran? Like yall say the 11.0 class? So its almost like bracket racing right, but you want to be the fastest out of the 11's? What happens if I dip into the 10's? Now I say mine will do a mid 10, but it hasn't been running that great and with more weight, shitty weather it might just go a high 10 or really low 11. So tell me how this works? Never done the T/S before, I have only been to FFW once and that was last year and I ran in the Fast Ford class and went out first round Sat and Sun.
Thanks guys

After the cruise you make 3 consecutive passes and they take the average of those passes. As long as you don't out run your tech card you can run as fast or slow as you want to. They will average them out and whatever it averages out to that is what determines if you win the 10,11,12,etc. classes. Just remember, you can not pop your hood between rounds or your disquailfied, you can not add or remove fuel after the cruise, you can let air out of your tires but you can not put air in to them.

Here is the link to the rules for True Street, not to hijack the thread, but I was asking a lot of the same questions the other day and was pointed here. Yes you want to try and average right at 10.0, 11.0, 12.0, ect because they pay the fastest averagefor each time.

seeing that it cost $75 to enter true street and can only win $100 I think I might just stay home and save for the buick/ford shootout. Noble sounds like more fun and cheaper.

its not about the money...
its about being one of the baddest mustang in texas

I'll be their everyday including Friday's TNT. I definately wanna check out your car Brooks :) Unless you spend the night on friday and sat, all the good spots get taken up. True Street is a Saturday only event and it basically takes up your whole day if you do that. The actual racing won't start until Saturday even.

well.. I have alot of stuff to get done between now and then. I have to get some ET Streets too.. I dont want to get stuck driving on my DR's - that would suck. I may come down there on Friday night and drop off the car..

Back in 02 when I had a car that ran I entered TS in Houston...
Car had gone mid-low 10s @ nearly 140 with the S-trim and 3550 combo on my 28x9 slicks with good weather. I went to the dyno after that pass and picked up about 40 hp tuning timing and fuel pressure...working on belt slippage.
I borrowed a friend's 26x10.5 (26x8) et streets and didn't think anything of it. It was about a billion degrees out and I didn't even think about it. I entered thinking I'd get a spot in the top ten and didn't even think about it.
Halfway through the cruise (led by a focus that wanted to do 20 mph...the WHOLE F*CKING WAY) my car's temp started climbing...hit 230+* fairly quickly. Get back to the track, ran a 10.8x somethin...@130ish with a 2.x 60ft. Figured hell, there goes my chance at the low end. Next pass was a 11.02@13x, and the final was a 10.98@118 on the brakes.
It was all luck, the guy I beat had a 10.998 average, mine was 11.004. He was closer but "broke out" so to speak.
Dont go to the event planning on winning, go to have fun. I was so focused on trying to win that weekend I forgot to have fun :(.

Well I think I have made up my mind and going to run in the Quick Ford class, have alittle better chance than I did last year.
Sean, yea I never really looked to win since I'm still new to all this. I know my car isn't all that fast and I'm not a very good bracket racer yet so its still all fun to me. Heck last year all I got was 2 time trials and 1 round each day and I had a blast :D Also just curious what was your s-trim combo? I'm currnetly running a S-trim myself and love to hear about others combo. I'm still running a stock 302 short block and only around 11psi AOD, 3045lb car :D

I would still go for true street...just more chances to win. If you have a bad pass and haveta shoot for 12.00 you can still ballpark it. And there is always the sunday bracket race. It will cost less, and you have more chances to win. I went home with $150 for winning 11.00 and making it to the finals in the bracket race.
*sigh* I remember it like yesterday, should've left the damn car alone....
Car weighed about 3300 with me in it...still had a/c :woot:
Edelbrock RPM heads and intake, 70mm tb/egr,
50# injectors, aeromotive eliminator fuel system,
Stock shortblock (which actually cracked in half after the last round of brackets on sunday, probably got about 6 months use out of her and around 45 track passes)
Anderson B-4 cam (secret ingredient...lol)
S-trim with a 2.65/7" 8 rib pulley setup. (It was one of Andrew's old blowers, might have had something to do with it...)
3.55 gears in a stock 8.8
Tremec 3550 with a spec carbon disc. (only clutch that would hold..)
I could drive the car anywhere, bump the fuel pressure up a bit and tighten the belt when I got there and bust off some consistent low 10s, then put it back in cruise mode and drive it home. Of course then the bug got me and it became a jackstand racer

I know this, thats why I'm leaving it alone. Heck I even have a 3.33 blower pulley, but I have been told it will spin alittle faster than I want it to with the 8inch crank. I need to get me a 4inch blower so I can stock my 8inch crank on there to. Casue they say with the 8in the boost comes in alot faster.
