I've got a Jensen 460 W amp to push two MTX Thunder 6000s or two Blue Thunders (my choice here). I was wondering if I would be that much better off buying a box than I would building a box. I mean, it's gotta fit an El Camino (space is quite limited), and I don't need super high quality, just something that sounds marginally decent. Thanks.

Build your own box. Then carpet it. It is really not that hard..

Is there a secret to doing it, or is it pretty easy?

Its pretty easy. I built my first box and it was a ported enclosure. i would imagine that there isnt much space in an elky so a sealed would be what you use, and those are even easier to build

Yeah, I've only got about a foot of vertical clearance (but several feet deep and wide). But with the sealed, would it ruin my subs. I don't know much about this part of the car and only have the information friends and you guys give me.

Using a sealed box is safer and easier than a ported box. Unless you are going for max spl or are limited by power then sealed is usually a better option. Now with a ported box you can damage speakers if you don't have your crossover settings correct or don't use a subsonic filter.

Thanks everybody; I've got the box built and one sub and the amp hooked up. Sounds pretty good, too.

yeah like he said it's not that hard.on seald boxes usually it is LxWxH divided by 1792 that will give you cubic feet for the box, just match it up with your speakers.

1 cubic foot = 12x12x12 cubic inches = 1,728 cubic inches. Thanks, though.
