Well I never thought I would be posting in here (I dont post much anyway), but I realized that I need to lose some weight and get into shape. So instead of just feeling sorry for myself I'm gonna start working out. I've been reading articles for beginner joggers and I found a plan that looks pretty good. You run/walk for 30 mins a day for 30 days, and then after that I can add to it. I'm also watching my diet a little more. Any tips? Does the plan seem ok? Keep in mind the last time I worked out at all was in 8th grade (6 years ago:eek: ) TIA

Just hang in there. Make sure you commit to the plan, keep away from the sugars (white bread, white rice, potatoes, sugary drinks and juices, sugary desserts) And remember. It took months to put the pounds on, give it about the same amount of time for the fat to come off. Make it a lifestyle.

when walking/running, walk for 5 minutes constantly picking up the pace, then run for 30 seconds about 80% max, then walk for 1 minute, then repeat for up to 10 cycles. then gradually pick up the time.

Thanks for the replies Monsoon X and waggydaddy. The walk/run routine is exactly what I read online, so that was a good idea. I just have to get used to exercising because i am VERY sore today. BTW, will I always be this sore after running?

No, you'll eventually condition yourself so that you'll actually feel like a $$$$$$$$$$ after a run. Great positive reinforcement, you just have to get over that hump.

I never ran, so when I started several months ago I couldn't go more than .5 a mile before I got completely winded and felt like my heart was going to blow. So I'd run/walk/run/walk 2 miles every morning. After several weeks I was finally able to make 2 miles solid running.

Since then I've run 2 miles, and then repeated the run/walk routine so now I'm up to 5 miles at a time.

It takes time though, so don't get discouraged. Make sure you have good running shoes, they make all the difference in the world.

i hate running- and just started really in January. Now i run every morning, at least 5x a week, sometimes 6. I usually run at least 1.5-2 miles and walk a mile each day before work. On weekends or when i have more time, i run 2-3, plus walk 2-3. I can't handle running 5 miles straight, haven't quite gotten there yet! lol

i lift weights at night and sometimes take a pilates/step class during lunch a few times a week.

it's hard, but i force myself to run. and i have come a long way from only being able to run for a minute straight back then! lol Just start off slow and add a minute or 30 second to your time everyday and you'll be amazed how far you can go. I've made it a habit now and just simply get up and do it each day.

I'm no doctor, but running is the best thing to get you into over-all good shape in my opinion. Be sure to get a good pair of shoes and drink plenty of water. I try to run in the late afternoon, but morning would be best because of the temperature and everything. Start doing some pull-up's while your at it.

I think that it's only a matter of making it a habit like you said, I've done it for 2 days straight now so its a start. I think I am gonna buy some running shoes too, I'm sure they'll help like Jedi said. I can only run for like a minute straight now too, so I cant even imagine how long 5 miles would take me!

Proper shoes are important. Also if you’re going to be going a LOT of running try and stay off the sidewalks. Run on grass or dirt if possible.
Just start of slow. Walk some if you have to. Soon running will become like walking. If you can run 5 miles then you can run 10.

Besides stretching, Breathing is also very important. You must have controlled breathing. In through the nose out the mouth as im sure you have heard.
I set my pace as fast as i can. Here's what i do. Two things will start to hurt when running. Breathing/cramps, or your legs. Good breathing and water will take away cramps and they will run out so keep going while you maintain good breathing.
If my legs are not hurting i speed up. If my breathing is still keeping up i speed up more. I find a spot were either my breathing or my legs are starting to give. I slow down a tad and im set. :)

If you are going to do any type or morning workout , don't do it while still in fasting mode (without eating something first), unless you don't mind using muscle for energy and to feed your body.

Walk/jog/running kicks ass for weight loss. I've been in cutting phase twice where I added that to my weekly routine and saw a 5lb loss in like a week to week and a half. SWEET!

Good luck and stick with it. eventually you will hate yourself if you miss a workout.
