My family will be down there for vacation from end of July-beginning of August... we will be at Schlitterbahn. So we will have trucks, tubes, coolers and all that.

I can call them and find out exactly where we went. Our campsite was right on the water. They even had bathrooms and showers close by.

You can camp on the river for pretty cheap. I went last year for about ~40$. It's about 10 bucks a night to camp, and 8 bucks a day to float.

We stayed at Gilligans Island on River Road. I think it was right around the second or third crossing. (if you've been, you know what i'm talking about)

They provided all the transportation to the drop and from the end of tubing, had bathrooms with showers, sand volleyball, and ample parking. It was pretty kick-ass. If ya'll go, count me in!

The best way do do it in my 5 or 6 trip expereince is to head down there Friday night, then tube all day Saturday and drive back Sun. Anyone up for a cannonball run down 35? :D Joking, of course!

We went down there a few weeks ago - I think it was the same week that poor bastard got struck by lightning on the Comal River. Went to Shlitterbaun and stayed in Seguin. We had a blast! Hopefully we'll be going back in August. :cool:

Rockin R's or Hueco Springs are the two best places to camp. If you go on a holiday, expect to make reservations like.....now. Otherwise, forget about camping. Personally, I would much rather camp on a weekend when it isn't so packed. Even the hotels will be pretty packed, and they charge ridiculously high rates down there during the busy weekends. BUt, I'm down for tubing the river whenever.

You can't bring dogs, unfortunately. They don't mind you taking them down the river, but none of the campsites allow them, for liability reasons. I spent a LOT of time checking on it last year. I'm not saying you can't sneak him in, but they will probably kick you out if they see him. I would take Bo if I could.

The cops are worse than ever this year. Two weeks ago they were posted up in the water, looking HARD for any kind of rule-breaking. They arrested a ton of people for stuff like public intoxication etc. One chick was napping in the raft, and they took her ass to jail for PI. You can't get away with ANYTHING anymore.

And get this:

Sunday morning they handed out tickets at the campsites for people drinking before noon!

I was at the Brazos this past weekend, and it was great. No cops at all, plenty of room, dogs allowed, and they don't care how loud you get. Bucks on the Brazos. Plus, it's less than an hour and a half drive. Just an idea.

It was sweet at the Brazos. There were huge trees everywhere to shade the tents. It was soooo nice to only drive an hour or so to get back after a weekend of tubing/partying. The drive home from the Guad sucks balls.

New Braunfels isn't big at all, any hotel will be within 15-20 minutes of the river. From past experience, I'd try and find one location for everyone to book so we can get thrown out. :D

I've never been down the Brazos so I'd just say it's about as far as Waco, around half the New Braunfels distance.

it's easy as hell to get to, and the camping is great. There's huge shade trees everywhere and it's only 30 or 40 yards off of the river. They even picked up the trash and dropped off a newspaper at the campsite in the morning!
