I just don't get the drifting thing. They were doing it out at MSR during the NASA event and it just seemed stupid. there is no "performance" orientation to it at all. It really just looks like "let's try and drive a piss poor handling car over the edge" type thing.
To each his own but beware that mineral wells is very rude to tires for wear. It's like 40 grit sand paper on plastic!!!
I understand your POV...MSR is not a very good amateur drift course, especially for underpowered cars...you'd get a better impression of amateurs on an autocross-type course/surface...
Contrary to what alot of people think its not about running shitty tires and poor suspension in the rear...That's what I used to think...Its kind of a paradox, you have a shitty rear end, you might be able to lose traction easier, but you have no control. Professional drifters run high grip tires and grip-like alignment settings because even though the tire is spinning beyond normal speed it's still "working". Drifting on high grip tires gives you more control during the drift and lets you hold longer, faster slides...
You'd be surprised at the racing principles used w/ drifting...weight transfer, racing lines, braking, etc...
Bottom line is, its fun as hell to do. :D
