I'm wanting to put some stereo equipment in my new dodge truck.
I'm looking for:
Head unit - Will most likely get the Alpine with built in XM, fwiw
Speakers - I like JL Audio and Boston speakers, that being said - I need to keep it kind of inexpensive.
Sub - I have hardly any room, some of the guys that have these put an open air 8 or 10 behind the rear seat.
Amp(s) - Not looking for huge power here, just clean sound that can perform loud when I need it.

I listen to a wide variety of music - all of it loud and the stock system blows.

Austin you sound in the mood to hook everybody up. How much can you get systems for, like 2-12s and an amp?

The W7 is not an SPL woofer. Don't believe the hype about RF stuff. You're on the right track with JL.
<----The real hook up who won't try to sell you a warranty that you don't need.:)

Damn right JL aint a SPL sub. IMO in every encounter Ive had with them has been bad.Bed cut chevy 1/2 ton with 6 13W7's with a jl 1000/1 on each with 6 redtops hit a 142db.1998 sedan with 2 13W7's in a standard sealed box 1.5^ft each powered by a Zapco 9.0 138 last weekend.Sounded like Shit I might add.An expedition with 8 12 wo's hit a 144.Not worth the cash IMHO $750 each.If you want SQ for amps and subs go with eclipse and focal. If you want SPL pm me.

Let me get this straight: 6600 watts and 6-13W7's hit 142?
Whatever:rolleyes: There is no way in hell that the system you desciribe hit only 142 unless the installer had some major BS going on in the system. We did 2 10W7s vented with one 1000/1 and it knocked half the product in our stock room on the floor.

The 15W3v2 is the recommended SPL woofer that JL builds and if I was after SPL, that is what I would use. The W7 puts out tons of volume but the main focus of its design is SQ. Just because someone has a certain product does not mean that it is installed properly or they know how to tune it.

agree with ew here, jl audio w7 is a good spl sub. I have great spl and sq with my w6v2's. If you want spl you should definately go with the 15w3v2's. I have heard a dodge truck with one 12w7 hit a 143 off the dash in a ported enclosure. But EW will definately hook you up. Oh yeah, thanks for the head unit, stereo sounds great now.

Im sorry if you doubt it but I was the judge who metered these cars in the legal dash position. And I guess if its knocking empty boxes off a shelf somewhere then it must be loud;) and what meter was used for that 143db single 12w7?I find that very hard to beleve from what ive seen so far.Bottom line IMHO JL sucks and that what this thread asked for is my opinion.

it was whatever meter car toys had a db drag about 6 months ago. jl does not suck imho. If I have learned one thing about car audio it is that application is the most important key to making it sound good. Someone with focal mids and highs can be outplayed by a set of boston acoustic co ax's if the focal's aren't installed properly and you do the right things to the co ax's.

EW,

Shoot me some info. I need to keep the cost down as much as possible right now, but want something I can build on.
