Okay, I have an Alpine Head Unit (CDM-7681 I believe). Anyway, I've never had a problem with it until recently. A few weeks ago it just decided that it does not want to read CD-Rs. Regular CDs play perfectly, but if I put in a burned CD it will play the first track or two fine, and then start skipping BADLY. I got a lens cleaning cd, and ran it through 3 times over the course of abour an hour, but that didn't help any at all.

What could be wrong, and how should I go about fixing the problem?

Any help is greatly appreciated, thanks.

The burned CDs are not as reflective as original CDs. Some combinations of CD and burner do not make a good enough copy for the older decks to play. Try different burned media and if you havhe same results, time for a new deck.

Well the thing is, my head unit IS suppose to play CD-R's , and DID play them just fine for the entire time that I have had it (I bought it new in '02) It's just that within the last few weeks it refuses to play them without skipping, but it doesn't give an error, just skips.

What would cause it to all of a sudden start doing that??? I love my head unit (mainly cuz it has the controllable angle adjuster)..lol, so I don't really wanna get a new one. I figured that there HAS to be something I can do to fix it without it costing an arm and a leg to do so.
