WTF- Can someone explain this?

This is a pic of Grebecks car the day he died . Did he always run on QTP's ?. I don't understand how he was running those time and not using slicks.

Hell I know it was 2 years ago. But I ran across the picture and thought WTF when I looked at the tire.

It ain't no fun if I can't give you a hard time. Some of those guys have been running those tires for a while now, like two years or so.

That was probably an outlaw street event where DOTs were mandatory. I know the NSCA used to have an Outlaw street class and they were running high 6s at 215+ and Hoosiers were the only tires that would hold them.
