You can get a Linksys combo Dsl/cable router/WAP for under $100. and get a good linksys 802.11 a/g card for under 100$.. depending on which you get yuou could see 50-100mb Wireless..

So I would need to buy a router and a card, whats wrong with the card I have on my Laptopthat I'm using with my Cable modem now, It seems tobe pretty fast?...'Henry

It's a Xircom high speed card in my IBM thinkpad 600X, thanks...

There's probably no problem with it physically, other than it's not a wireless card. If you want to go wireless, you have to make the hub/router/ap wireless, and get a wireless card to match up to it.

Just be sure when you go wireless, that you read up all the info you can on your particular setup, so you can block unwanted outside users from leeching off your connection. As retarded as it sounds, people do roam streets with a laptop and a wireless card, searching for open wireless connections that they then use to leech off, or break into computers through.

Linksys. I dont know if anything has changed since they got bought out by Cisco, but their stuff usually has better quality componets on the inside which leads to further signals.

henry.. setting it up is pretty easy and i dont mind helping. dark wolf is right.. SECURE YOUR SHIT!! On mine i dont advertise SSID, i have it restricted to 2 MAC addresses , and i log every attempt at connection. with my 2 link sys cards i can hit 48mb even outside in my garden.

Aye, don't broadcast SSID, mac filtering, and 256bit encryption. Even though I live in the booney's, I'm always prepared :D
