i am about to try my first build and i want to have a guide as to what i need to know. is there any good sites that have info about building a computer.

one of the big questions i have is: I am starting from scratch i am going to get a new motherboard, hardrive, RAM, video card, and such... so do i have to have a OS pre installed on the hard drive for it to boot? if so how the heck am i supposed to install the OS on the hard drive? What kind of problems can i expect to run into when doing my first build?

i have a basic idea of what i am going to build

2.8e p4 800Mhz fsb/ 1mb cache prescott

GIGABYTE GA8Ik1100MB

ATI RADEON 9800XT 256mb card

1GB pc3200 ram low latency/ ecc

200 gb ultra/ata 133

i still need to pick out a case but i figure i can get this all done for under $1,500.

thanks for the help,

kyle

It's actually pretty easy to build one. I had a buddy build one a couple weeks ago, and he's never done it before. Everything is pretty much idiot proof. The only thing you might have problems with are hooking up the power/ reset switchs and the LEDs. That get kinda confusing sometimes.

You are going to have to install the OS onto the hard drive. It's not hard though. Just go into the BIOS, and make the CD-ROM the first boot device. After that, it's all gravy.
