Specs are:

Intel Pentium 4 2.8 ghz CPU with 800 FSB
256 mb dual channel DDR SDRAM
40 Gig Hard drive
16x DVD drive
48x CDRW
Intel Extreme 3D video card
Dolby Digital 5.1 Sound
Ports: 8 usb 2, NIC, video, ps2, serial, parallel
Operating system: Windows XP Home edition with CD and Certificate of Authenticity, DVD software, cd burning software, office / productivity software
Accessories: Power cables, keyboard, mouse.

Bought this system on Ebay for $410 to my door. Priced it on Dell for a little over $750, so I feel I got a great deal. However, I know there are a few shortcomings of the system. I plan on adding another 256MB of RAM, if not another 512MB. It also comes with XP home, but I have PRO and will upgrade. I also intend on adding a larger back up HD. That's what I know so far. What else would be good to add to this system or would you leave it alone? I'm not a big gamer, but I do plan an occasional game or two. Anyway, your thoughts on this system would be appreciated.

I think thats a good deal for 410, only weakness is that dell's SB's suck... they DO NOT WORK ON LINUX... but if you run windows.. who cares???

Also the intel extreme video aren't too hot for games and used shared memory but for a home internet, email, office machine sounds like a good deal.

On my current machine, I have a GeForce MX440 graphics card...not hot, but maybe better than the Dell version? I may upgrade later on if I get into gaming a little more.

I don't know if the Intel would be faster than that GeForce or not. That model was the "value" model even for its day...you could do much better for very little cash. I'd say other than the things you are already planning to upgrade, the video is the only other thing to consider.
