I've been having connection problems for about a week now.

I use to beable to connect at 42-48k and all of a sudden it drops to 28.8 and wont go any higher.

I know that the phone lines around here probably wont support much more than 28k but it would still display 48k or so.

Not to mention there is a significant change in downloading speed and surfing speed.

My question is what might have caused it and what can I do to fix the connection problems.

Check for spyware and stuff. Who is your ISP?

The xp modems settings might have changed. Im not an XP user at all. Im more Win2k. I believe there is a setting where you change if you only want to connect at this speed. Look around in the CP in modem settings. If it keeps doing, change your phone line cable with another.

you could try some connection managers also , I got some from www.cnet.com just go to downloads then internet and then download one , even if it does not speed it up it will show you what settings you have on your connection....:D

Well I've looked through all the CP for settings on the modem and it says everything is working as it should.

I dont really want to download anything extra cause it was working before without any changes so I'd like to fix it as is.

I'll just keep looking for anything I can do to change the settings on it I might try setting up new connections to replace the old ones maybe some where in the setup it will have the option on what to connect at.

I got doctor tcp just to view what my settings were and to max them out , it was free from cnet, I had my yahoo dsl onnecting using the software they gave me and it was complete shit, I did mine manually, and my download went from 34.7kbs to 89.8max which is better....:D
