We can't get our 2nd computer to work because it's asking for the Win98 CD and we don't have a copy of it. Can someone come over here and figure this thing out? I'll pay you! Not much, but something. All we are trying to do is connect it to a router for the internet.

Everytime I go into my email (outlook, Charter) I have these "Message Failed" or "Undeliverable" emails and I haven't sent anything out! Is someone sending out emails through my account?

HELP!

Thanks :)

#1 - What part of town are you in? I'm in Denton and I have several Win 98 CDs.

#2 - Sounds like you might have a virus trying to email itself.

there are some viruses out now that when others get infected it sends out undeliverable reciepts etc to people you didnt even send to. Your AV should catch this. Just in case just delete them.

If you do get ahold of a 98cd just copy the cabs folder to your harddrive.

All my old 98 installs I used to just copy these onto a blank drive and just run the install from there so when you did stuff like this it would just pull from the HD to get em. Should be around 100mb total that you need if I remember right. Let me know if I need to try and get that folder on the internet so you can download the stuff you need.

By that question, one would assume that you don't have any AV software.
If you have very valuable info on your computer, you can go and get some AV sofware such as Norton or Mac Afee and run the AV software from boot up.

Someone might be MASKING your email, sending spam out, and charter gets the email back that it is Undeliverable.

Yes, I have Norton but it keeps saying my subscription is expired, yet it's scanning right now.

"subscription is expired" Just means you can't get new virus updates.
That MAY not be MUCH of an issue, depending on WHEN it expired. With all the new ones out it could a problem.

The first problem is you are running windows '98. It's wasy too old an outdated to be messing with. Trust me, it will save you much grief in the long run. Windows '98 never gave me any reason to keep running it. Windows 2000 or millennium are both much more stable.

See if this solves your problem with needing the Win98 CD...instead of pointing to your CD rom drive, type in C:\windows\options\cabs and hit OK. Some OEMs put the CAB files on the HD so you could have them and not know it. The other issue sounds like a virus or trojan to me.

Ok, so I installed Norton SystemWorks 2004 and it's catching the viruses in my email. How do I get them to stop all together?

I still can't get the internet to work on the other computer.

First update your anti-virus definitions (if you havent) and then run a full system scan.

If that doesn't cure it, make note of the specific virus that it's catching, and then go to www.symantec.com (norton's website) and search for it. Often they will create a downloadable program that will fix a specific virus.
