I dont know about anyone else here, but I take offense to this. Hollywood in no way is voicing his belief of religion.
If anything he is mocking those of us who do believe in a higher power.
If he was to come in here and say that he was an athiest and didn't believe in a god then fine,
but he would rather come in here and post up some lame picture of Moses and a golden calf.
The ONLY reason he did is because the Ten Commandments was on TV last night.
You would think that as smart as he is, he would be able to come up with something more original. I guess I have over estimated him. :rolleyes:

I'm actually mocking that story. I find it hard to believe that when Moses came down from the mountain, he found a bunch of people worshipping a golden calf. Or is the golden calf a metaphor? If so then the jokes on me.

Why do you find this hard to believe, man? The people wanted something tangable that they could believe in, much like the world today. If they couldn't see God then they had a hard time believing, as long as they had this calf in front of them they had something to relate to, something they could touch. They were no different then the people today that say they dont believe in God because they cant see Him, all they believe in is what can be "proved" or what they can hold on to, what is physical.

Most Gods in religion have a distinct and well thought out purpose. Example, the ancient egyptians had gods for every thing they couldn't explain (sun, death, etc). Most idols take time to develop where this one appeared out of the blue. I guess I don't see the purpose of a golden calf and it's sudden birth. Seemed too spur of the moment. I'm more to leaving my interpretation as to Moses seeing the people engaging in unethical behavior and using a golden calf as a metaphor for money, sexual activity, drinking, etc.

Appeared out of the blue? We are talking about several hundred thousand Hebrews that just came out of Egypt where they had spent the last 400 years. Dont you think that some of the Egyptian religions rubbed off on them?
"Exo 32:1 And when the people saw that Moses delayed to come down out of the mount, the people gathered themselves together unto Aaron, and said unto him, Up, make us gods, which shall go before us; for as for this Moses, the man that brought us up out of the land of Egypt, we know not what is become of him."
Moses was on the mountain for 40 days while God handed him the Ten Commandments and told him how to design the temple. The people did not know what had happened to him or why he was delayed from his return. As soon as they were finished God told Moses to go down the mountain because " for thy people, which thou broughtest out of the land of Egypt, have corrupted themselves".

Not true, an archeologist by the name of Bob Cornuke has discovered an altar-like formation 30 feet tall and 30 feet across - quite possibly the altar where the golden calf was set up and worshiped by the wandering Israelites. In a nearby cave there are also drawings of a bull god helping to confirm this. Of course this is not off of the traditional Mt. Sinai in the Sinai Peninsula. The true Mt. Sinai written about in Exodus is in Saudi Arabia and not Egypt.
