View Full Version : Paint blemishes and hard water stains

I recently bought a 1996 Mystic Cobra. After going over the Mystic with a fine tooth comb, I've noticed some things I'm concerned about. The car looks like it was outside for a period of time. There's some blemishes in the paint that look like bird crap and hard water stains. Some of those areas the paint almost looks lightly cracked or deteriorated. What's the best stuff to use to try to get that stuff out of the paint. What's the best way to protect against any further deterioration to the paint?
There's also hard water stains or markings on the side view mirrors. Is there something I can use to remove those from the mirrors too?
It's unfortunate and sad to see this happen to such a beautiful car.
Thanks,
DallasCobra

buff the paint with a light abrasive for best results, then put a good wax or polish on it. I prefer Zaino.
For water spots on windows and mirrors I use Bar Keepers Friend, it can be found at most grocery stores and at Wal-Mart. Its easy and cheap.

Thanks for the info. Where could I find Zaino at?
I should have mentioned this in my original post, but I have some Meguiar's Dual Action Polish (medium). Is that something good to use? And of course, if that doesn't work, I could try a more aggressive approach by using some 1500 grit sandpaper and wet sand the areas. Any of these not recommended for the blemishes I mentioned in my post?

Are you planning to use a high speed buffer or apply this by hand? I use 3M swirl remover with a high speed buffer if the paint isnt too bad, then clay bar and apply zaino Z2 and Z5 by hand.

All this will be by hand unless it's highly recommended to do some of it with a high speed buffer. Then I'll go out and get a high speed buffer.

I highly recomend a high speed buffer if the paint is not flawless already. If its in good condition you can get away with clay bar and Zaino. Post some pics

The paint is in good condition. The car was detailed right before I bought it. I'm probably making sound really bad. It's hardly noticeable to anyone, but "I" notice it and I'm very meticulous and picky when it comes to my cars.
I tried to take pictures, but the blemishes don't show well with my digital camera.
YoBro, if you ever attend any local functions maybe we can meet up next time you're at one and I can show you what I'm talking about. In the meantime, I'll probably get that clay bar and some Zaino as you suggested.
Thanks for your help.

Clay bar, for swirls and the light cracking hit it up with DACP in those spots, work it well into the paint

i forgot to mention that i used the p21s paintwork cleanser before the klasse which helped out alot and it was all done by hand but the polishing was done by a polisher
i have every wax and polish you can think of and the 6 step proccess has made a world of a difference to me now it looks like a new car and 10 times better
