Just wondering what supplements every one is using or recommends? I am taking Ripped Fuel Extreme right now. I kinda like it. Until I took it on an empty stomach and I turned all hot and red, and felt nasty! :(

What do you guys take and why? What benefits are there to taking them?

TIA,
K~

I'm cheap so I just take straight Caffeine pills. They are $2.00/bottle at Target and have the same caffeine amount as diet pills. It's not No Doze - but something similar. LOL...

And I take a multi vitamin, selenium, carnetine, and fiber pills. :o

I just take a daily vitamin and usually drink a protein shake every other day at least (having one now----the TI gym has a frullati in it!)

i used to take xenadrine (efx, no ephedra) and tried hydroxycut, but i got off them. They gave me a lot of energy, but sometimes I would feel sick to my stomach and get headaches, so i stopped, plus you have to cycle on and off to keep taking them. I have a ton of asthma medicine from back in the day, so i guess i could sell it now for the ephedra in it! lol

what's advocare?

Thanks Chelle!! :) I definately take a multi-vitamin for women, I am thinking about getting back on Hydroxycut. That is the only thing that didn't make me feel like a lab rat on speed. Thanks for all the input you guys. ;)

This was posted on a body building board by a VERY knowlegeable member so i cant take credit for it.. but it is very very good info for beginers.

Whey protein: This is one of our finest sources of available protein and it is an invaluable part of your supplement arsenal. Since whey is a very fast-acting protein it is best used as a post workout supplement. Thirty to sixty grams taken with simple carbs right after a workout will set the growth process in motion.

Glutamine: A supplement with a myriad of muscle-building, health-enhancing benefits, it should be on almost every bodybuilders “must use” list. Multiple daily doses is the way to go with glutamine. Simply mix 5 g in water and drink it down 30 minutes before breakfast, before training, after training, and 30 minutes before bed.

Creatine: This muscle building, strength enhancing powerhouse is one of the most researched compounds in all the sports supplementation industry. It has gained popularity and remained on top for one reason…it flat out works. Use 20 g per day for the first five days, split into 4 even daily doses. Mix with water or grape juice or right into a protein shake. After this loading phase, simply maintain creatine stores with only 5 g per day, taken before breakfast or right after training.

EFA's: Essential fatty acids should appear in everybody’s diet. Unlike some fats, EFAs are incredibly healthful and will help the bodybuilder build more muscle and lower bodyfat. Oils such as flax, fish, and olive, contain plenty of EFAs, and they should be consumed regularly. Depending on your overall caloric needs, between 1 and 4 tablespoons of EFAs should be consumed daily. Mix them into protein drinks or salads, or take the caps with meals. You can also use CLA, a more specialized healthy fat that has been shown to enhance immunity, repartition calories, and lower bodyfat.

Also.. if you take a multi vit like one-a-day. Break it in 2 and have 1 early and one later. your body cant absorb all the good stuff in a multivitiman all at the same time.

The only thing I am taking right now is a multivitamin, glutamine, and a supplement called Tribulus Terrestris.

i wouldnt advise taking ripped fuel. It has a tendancy to drain your body of water, causes some people to pass out, faint, have headaches, or dehydrate. If you still want to use it or swear by it, drink LOTS of water, ive seen people throw up/shake/pass out on this stuff a while back. creatine, complex and whey protein are always good, multi vitamins with zinc, calcium, magnesium, copper are essentials to replace things you burn while working out.

I like hydroxycut, gives me a extra kick in the ass for my workout.
only side effect Ive had is I took one right before my workout at 7pm and I kinda had a hard time going to sleep last night. Other than that I really like it.

If you look at what it is, you will see the reason. The main ingredient on those pills is caffeine, mixed with aspirin. Used to be caffeined, aspirin and ephedrin. I would seriously rethink before getting into that addiction, it's hard to break.

If you do, you would get the same results cheaper by buying caffeine and aspirin separately.

ZMA (mainly zing and magnesium), anyone have an opinion about it?

For christ sake people, just eat right and exercise your big fat lazy asses into shape! :p

On a serious note, I used to take supplements (mostly on those hangover days when I needed a kick at work, or late at night) but stay away from them after I intelligently took two to cure a hangover and went roller skating with some gal pals. I very nearly had to be taken to a hospital after I got sick, and couldn't breathe. :(

Ahhh, you should know better than that. Hangover and workout, don't do it. Same with feeling sick (like flu), you don't want infected heart muscle.

I've started intensive workout for god knows after how many years. I didn't use to take supplements but what can you do, the body gets old and they can be helpful. None of that caffeine shite. Creatine, glutamine, protein, and ZMA before bedtime. We'll see what happens. I have to say that after taking ZMA I feel like I'm 20 again, in a way that the ladies like. I quess it does boost testosteroine levels...

if you are lifting HARD and heavy.. i highly sugest Vit C and Glutamine.. now dosage depends. i know sevaral HUGE dudes who swear by it and take 20-30g glutaming and 2-3 g of Vit C a day.. im trying it now. to help heal an injury and recover from hard work outs.

The only thing that I do is take a protien shake right before a workout (loaded with Glutamine) and then another Glutamine dose afterwards. I then usually eat dinner.

I would take Creatine, but I am not on a regular enough schedule to do it right. I would just manage to screw it up and waste my money.

HEYY!! I am lazy but I am not fat. ;) I just was looking for something that would help with the building of muscle tissue. I would like to look into fitness modeling one day. Not the muscle bound dude looking girls. But the ones you see on the cover of Qxygen and Muscle and Fitness Hers.

Oh, and BAD idea working out with a hangover. Your body is far to dehydrated for that. :p

How much of that weight do you expect to lose when you go off the Creatine? The stuff really works, but remember that it helps your muscles to retain water which will make you look bigger and weigh more. How much more, I don't know. The real test is after you have cycled off of it.

I've been taking NoX2 for 2 months and its been doin its job, just gotta drink tons of water. Basically gives you a good pump when lifting weights, and also when i play basket ball i dont get tired after 3 games anymore gives a ton of stamina. Side effects arent that bad either :D . Also i recommend not buying the NoX2 that GNC sells, search on the web for Pinnacle brand its half the price and works just as well.

A clean protein heavy diet. If you're on a budget getting enough healthy calories can get expensive.
