Although any of the suggestions above will work, the healthy way (albeit a little more time consuming) would be to cut out all sugars, saturated fats, and alcohol while eating about 500 calories less than you burn each day.
Yeah, I guess you're correct 01WC.
Don't forget junior, you can always do surgery. And if you can't afford that, just kill yourself. Death is the ultimate way to lose the pounds, and keep them off.

Seriously Junior...
If you want some help, let us know what you are doing currently and what you are eating (for example, eating 4 bean burritos 5 days a week from Taco Bell for lunch ain't gonna help).

To lose fat do cardio, you can't spot trim fat off so you'll have to lose fat all around to lose weight around the gut. But at 145lbs and 5'7 you don't sound fat. If you're wanting to get cut though, you have to have the abs for it... start doing multiple sets of crunches from all sorts of different positions... mix it up... sometimes do leg raises while you crunch, other times do them on an aerobics ball... sometimes put your legs to the side when you do crunches to hit your obliques (sp)... thats my advice

Being cut has nothing to do with ab exercises, it's all about body composition. Haven't you seen those rail hin guys that have super high metabolisms? They've never set foot in a gym, but at 6-8% bodyfat the abs come straight through.
That's not to say he shouldn't do work his abs though, conditioned abs look alot more apealing than just getting lean.
