I'm trying to lighten my car and am considering replacing my lakewood scattershield with a standard Tremec 3550 alum. bellhousing. When do you need a scattershield at the local tracks?

I'm thinking it's 11.99 but I could be wrong...

If your talking about a scattershield, it's technically 11.99 like andrew said, but they aren't to strict on that from what I can tell, unless is like ffw or smth...then I dunno how strict they are.

11.99. But no one really ever checks for it unless you go to a FFW weekend or some other sanctioned event. If you run 11.99 usually the tracks are going to look for a roll bar/cage, helmet or fire jacket. A scattershield is usually last on the list. I'd keep the
scattershield on and lighten the car somewhere else. If the flywheel decides to come apart you want have to worry about it coming through the floorboard and cutting your feet off.

I've seen that happen. An old camaro blew up the clutch/flywheel about 2/3 down the track at the old green valley strip. The cowl area in front of the windshield went flying up in the air (meaning enough metal went through the firewall/under dash area to rip it off) and the transmission exited under the car and was laying on the track. The driver did not get out of the vehicle :(

Damn! I've heard about things like that happening but luckily have never witnessed it. Speaking of the old green valley strip, have you been by there lately? Went by a month ago and took a few pics. Right where the old strip was appears to be the layout for a new street. I wonder what it will be named, Speedway drive, Dragstrip avenue? Whenever I get my home computer back up I'll post up some pics. It might bring back some memories for you old school guys.

We went by there about a year ago and took some pics. They had cleared away everything except the strip, the foundation for the tower, and some of the staging lanes.

It would be cool (for me, anyway) to own a house on whatever street they put in there LOL..... but you'd have to be careful and not buy the lot that's over the old shitter

I'd love to see a pic when you can post one up.

A friend of my Dad's had a clutch and flywheel do that once, and it cut off a little over half of his right foot. He's lucky that is all that happened to him. I have a slow car but I was thinking about getting a scattershield anyways.
I wish one of my scattershields for my SBC's would fit ;). I've got 3 of them!
