Market dept decides its time to get the company website redone. I'm the network admin and technical guru for the company. I strongly recommend to have it developed in php/mysql. Of course they don't listen and have it written is asp/.net and now gripe the company wants 500/month to maintain not including any graphic changes.

Now also if we ever bring it in house I have to put in a SQL server.

Anyone out there do web dev on MS platform?

$500 a month isn't that much if the contracted company is hosting + maintaining the website.

Ask the marketing department to stop bitching about $500/month and cut out the three martini lunches and they will have paid for the intranet site.

PHP and MySQL would've been cross platform comptiable. When will companies learn that linux, php, mysql, and apache mean stabilty, secureness, and cheapness.

I'm glad a I work for a company whos internal servers run OpenBSD, and whos client base is 99% Unix/Linux and opensource friendly.

That is what I'm doing.

I develop on my Windows box (PHP/MySQL/Apache) and put them on the Linux server when I'm comfortable with it.

I can still code and debug faster on the Windows box.

They are not hosting the site. Hosting is being done elsewhere.

For 500/mo how many hours of time are they getting? 5? 10? 20?

We have a ASP (as application service provider, not Active Server Pages) that we change 60K a year for, or 5K a month. :D
