wireless network help for cash

I'm about to throw all my stuff in the trash, I'm trying to get a wirless setup to work at home and am having a few minor problems like, the wireless router drops the dsl connection about every 30 seconds. I can't log on to the router because of conflicts in addressing.
The dsl is a canopy wireless system and it works fine plugged directly to my computer, the router is new and the second one I've had in the last 2 days. If anyone can help me with this hell I'm going through, please let me know, I'll pay cash for help.

dude - this thread might be better suited for the Computer Support forum.

First thing you need to attack is the interface to your router. You should ALWAYS have communication between the router and your PC. If you cannot access the console on the router from your PC you are not going anywhere. Most routers will also act as a DHCP server. Does your PC have an IP address issued from the router? Should be something like 192.168.0.x.

Regarding router connectivity to your provider, I assume you have informed your provider that you are changing PC's and you want the wireless router's MAC on your account? I believe SWB has software that takes the MAC and initializes your account for the initial setup. However you can't run the software on the router so you have to have their cooperation or maybe there is a web interface where you can do this manually? This has been a major sticking point for some of my DSL clients. Also, assume you have configged the router for PPOE that DSL requires?

If its a Siemens router, take it back and get a linksys, I had the same issues with a seimens router, went through 3 returns before I gave up. If you still are having problems let me know, I do them for a living.

however, i recently bought a microsoft router and card. wasnt too excited about it, but I got both for about $100. and this is the G not B standard, so I coulnt pass it up.

I ended up getting a linksys and had to configure it for a cable modem for it to work, I assumed this was a dsl-like service, it's motorola canopy line of sight microwave service , it's working ok now.

i would prefer belkin.. linksys is good, but belkin rated higher by cnet and has a lifetime warrenty. working in retail for 4 years, linksys is the most broken product returned in all of networking.
