Is anyone doing Voice over IP at their home... if so where are you getting the Service and what equipment are you using....

Let me know I am trying to find some info on it....

We use it at work, but I don't have it at home. We've got Cisco 7960's and they are actually clearer then regular phones as long as they stay on our network.

Yeah I was pretty interested until I started wondering about how the home alarm will connect to it. :( I'm still investigating ...

One of my partners has a Vonage account. Pretty cool, I haven't notice any difference between that and when he had a *normal* line.

He picks up his little box, takes it home, plugs it in there and gets his calls. Take it to his beach house plugs in in there and gets his calls. Goes to Japan, plugs it in and gets his calls.

Pretty cool. I'm thinking about replacing my business line with it. Then people really won't know where I am!

has he tried tivo or home alarm... I know those require analog lines??? if not would you mind asking him?

I emailed vonage about the home alarm and there response is below. Basically, you can do it, but they don't recommend it. I'd imagine TiVo would work off it the same way, but wiring all this stuff up is starting to look like a pain.

<I>In response to your email, home alarms are compatible with our system.
But we recommend that you keep a basic telephone line to support your
home alarm system. Just to be on a safe side.
One reason is if your power or connection goes down, so will your alarm
system.
If you still need further information, please give us a call at 1-866- 243-4357.

Please let us know if we may be of any further assistance.

Sincerely,
Shirley A.

He like I, have multiple lines coming into the house (I have 4)

I'm thinking of replacing the business and the fax lines, still leaving me 2 for security and Dish, etc.
