And just can't seem to get a little race going to see how the car is running. (before you flame..........I didn't say anything about street racing) I got a neighbor that has a 81 model corvette with the exact same mods that I have.......except the package is by Edelbrock. Been trying to get him and just cant get him out to do it. His wife won't let him go to Kennadale:rolleyes: Anybody on the South side of Fort Worth up for a little run? Guys like stroker, Al P, Dragradial.and other guys in that league.......don't waste your gas. I'm not fast. LOL!

Try driving a LS1 through Garland and Mesquite (Mustang Capital) every day. Before I gave up street racing, I had one race in 6 months.

back when street racing wasn't a sin, it seemed like the only time I got lined up with a saleen on one side of me and a C5 on the other was when I was in one of my 17sec daily beaters!

I have been wanting to see how those run............bring it. PM me when and where.:D
Those aren't like the old 454ss that came out in the late 80's supposed to be the bad truck that any 305 would out run are they? Or do they really run better than the 5.3 ltre ext cabs. The 5.3's run pretty damn good. I do want to see it.

Nice looking truck.
Why did chevy build an SS that would be slower than a Ford Harley Edition 4 door?
According to Motor Trend the SS ran a 6.96 0-60 and a 15.22 1/4 mile.
The Harley ran a 6.49 0-60 and a 14.77 1/4 mile. I am guessing a lightning is even faster.

when my coupe and my cobra were on the streets, i could never find a decent race, but once the cobra was totaled and the coupe was retired to track only, i see cars left and right while in the blazer...

I would hope the Chevy would be quiet a bit cheaper......haven't priced them. They last chevy trucks that had power adders were the cyclone/typhoon and they were some of the baddest production vehicles around. I guess chevy is losing ground finally on performance.........but If they ever do add a blower.......I'm sure we will be impressed.

Between the Grand National and the cyclone/typhoon, GM had some great cars. They just always priced them out of the league for most buyers. Ford did that with the SVO.
I have no idea why GM can't sell fast cars at a reasonable price with a power adder. Hell, they couldn't even sell a less expensive Z28.

I bought this truck because I was getting tired of my Avalanche. This truck is awesome, you would not believe the compliments and stares that I get with this truck.
As far as the perfromance is concerned I am happy with it. It ran a 9.90 at Kennedale stock. Now by no means is that Ford Lightning fast but I would be f*cked if I had a regular cab pickup. However, the handling on this pickup is great. The AWD makes it feel like rails around corners.
Of course my ultimate decision in buying this truck was the price. I got a $40,335 truck for $29,725.

88hatch5_0, talk to my friend Big Tex on LS1tech.com if you're interested in going faster. We put a cam in his SS a few weeks ago. It really wakes them up. He put headers and a torque convertor in it and will be installing nitrous soon.

If it is the same guy, I think he posts out on Silverado SS.com. How hard was it to put in that cam, I think that would be pretty neat to do? How is the performance?

I'm sure he is on there as well. The cam was simple to do. I can't tell you how much power he gain, but on his old 5.3 Z71 his dyno flatlined at about 5000 rpms and went south on the stock cam. After the little GM hot cam and electric fans were installed, it kept making power to 6000rpms for a 60 rwhp gain. Below 5000 rpms he gain about 20 rwhp.

My 2000 5.3 litre did a 10.2 at kennedale in full stock form. Even stock air filter. So for 40k........even being the gm guy that I am, I would have to go for the Ligthning. You got a good price. I had no Idea they were that much:eek:

Yeah that is exactly why we have such a hard time selling them. Like I said I am happy with the performance, I didn't buy it to race. I would love to have a Lightning but I have to have an extended cab. I really am not concerned about the performance of the truck, the looks and handling sold me on the truck.

I know what you mean. Before I sold my coupe I never ran into anyone that wanted to run. On the other hand my wife just purchased an 03 GT and people try to race her atleast 3 or 4 times a weak.
As far as trucks go I am curious what #s my new 5.3 ext. cab GMC would put down ( not that I am a big truck racer).

My buddy bought a 2003 ext cab for his son, We were driving along and raced a chipped out dodge deisel. At a 30 punch he lit the tires up ( my buddy), let off hit it again and lit them up again. I was freaking amazed:eek:

Diesel + Juice Box = Torque!
My dad's 2003 HD ran 9.1 at Denton on the low setting. I'm sure it would be in the 8s now.
