If so, I need to sell some of my aircraft tools as I made a career change some years ago and hopefully will never return to the trade.
Have bucking bars, clecos, reamers, quick clamps, air tools, etc This is equipment used to do structural repair on aluminum aircraft.
Am also selling my large Snap-on taco wagon style tool box. According to Snap-on, this box was designed for the aviation industry with access from three sides
Email if interested, pics available of all.
man, you're probably gonna get a better deal selling it all back to snap-on than selling it here.

Snap-on doesn't sell this type of equipment. You have to go to specialty aircraft supply stores for these type items (or machine shops for reamers). Only the toolbox is snap-on and it is and older box.
I did call a few snap-on dealers and they only offer about 50% of market value.
This will all sell, just checking to see if there were any tin-benders on this board. I will probably just have to load up and hit Love Field or Addison and sell out of the back of my truck ;)
I gotta sell my tools, as well. I probably didn't spend a tenth of what you did, and I'll probably only get half out of it, too.

I'd like to know what air tools you have, and might be interested in some bucking bars. PM me or e-mail @ jeffyd@verizon.net
Thanks, Jeff.

I thought about it after I posted that and decided to give the toolbox buyer first option. Would prefer to sell all at once (wishful thinking) but will have to see how it goes.
For air tools, I have a rivet shaver, a few rivet guns w/sets, a couple of angle drill motors (45 and 90 degree, even a large chucked angle drill) and large geared drill motor. Have a buttload of threaded drill bits for the small head ange drill motors.
I also have a complete reamer set for every size hi-shear and hi-loc fastener from 3/16 to 9/16 diameter including 1st, 2nd, and 3rd oversizes. Spot facers, reverse countersinks and counterbores, drill bushings, etc. If you are into heavy structural repair on big birds, this is sheet metal man's dream.

So is that how to get on with FedEx? I've been trying for a while, but I guess being the offspring of the boss carries more weight than 13 years experience.

I had over 15 years experience and stayed gainfully employed the whole time. I never really did much better than $55K on a good year when I was working for Associated Air Center at Love Field.
FedEX pays their mechanics $70-80K a year? Correct me if I'm wrong, but if that's so I would think that salary range would be that of a crew chief or above with a LOT of seniority.
I've only been out of the business for a little over 5 years now. As I recall, beginning mechanics with tickets and no experience were a dime a dozen and could usually expect only $30-35K starting out.
Damn - maybe I ought to go back to pounding rivets?

I work with 10 A&P's, none of them make more than $45K a year(without overtime), they have to work in freezing cold, rain, at night, in cornfields, have no chance for advancement, are held criminally liable for mistakes, sometimes have to pull 18-36 hours shifts, miss most of thier kids birthdays, get calls day & night, have to fly off anywhere in the world with NO notice (hey Bob, your flying to Equador in 2 hours and will be there a month). And this is NOT a little FBO shop, I work for the largest aircraft engine manufacturer in the world(guess). No thanks!!
Most auto mechanics work no more than 50 hours a week and make $50-$100K, and don't have a student loan to pay back, and always work in the same shop, and can't be thrown in jail for a mistake.

Starting pay at FedEx is 51K a year(give or take a little)(Around $24.70hr) Yes my dad is a crew chief and has been for sometime. He joined on with Fedex when they bought Fly'n Tigers in 87'-88'. Right now he's makeing a bit over 90K a year. If you dont like the cold and rain maybe this isnt the job for them, I personally dont mind being cold or wet for 50K a year, not to mention you work for 4hrs. a day and set on your ass the rest of the day usually. Money isnt everything in life, if you dont enjoy your job money will not make you enjoy it. Yea, it may help but you will always hate your job. PLus, FedEx is the only one around that has NEVER layed off a mechanic. BTW: Yes, being offspring does help and thats how this world works and always will work. Knowing the right people will get you higher up in life.

Scott FYI: I wont have a student loan to pay back.. When its all said and done with my schooling will have cost me around 8K.
You're lucky to be guranteed a job. I was going to school for A&P and the bastard school closed down. I ended up finishing the powerplant portion, but that's pretty much useless by itself  The market for that job sucks so bad it's not even funny. Luckily I got my loans forgiven due to the school breaking contract.

Sorry to hear about that but glad that you weren't held to satisfy that loan.
I think everything considered, work is work, $ is $, and being happy with what you are doing is a BIG piece of it. I earned what I thought was 'respectable' pay during my aviation tenure. Now and after only five years in the IT field, have increased my salary over 10K. My work environment is more healthy and safe (I wear slacks and stay clean!), and have a decent benefit package.
I still enjoy working with my hands and miss the satisfaction of stepping back and being able to admire my work. Now, those skills are reserved for my own endeavors like home improvement, jukebox restoration, tinkering with the vehicles, etc.
At the end of the day, I think I will be happier pulling $70-80K+ in a nice climate controlled environment. But make no mistake - there's nothing wrong with that old hangar either.
BTW, anyone interested in some aircraft tools? ;)

Sorry about that - I think I did post the price of the box at $1200 but not in this thread. Probably need to delete it. See it here:

I am sorting thru the tools right now and will give the box buyer first option. I will offer tools as a lot only as I want to get rid of them at once and not be left with any single items
