Basically, I wanted to know how to play songs off my laptop through my stereo. I've seen it done before, but it was a while ago. Anyone know what it takes to do it?

Depends. If your stereo has RCA inputs, then all you need is a 1/8" stereo plug to dual RCA plugs (red and white) "Y" adapter. Should be able to find one at Radio Shack for about $5.
If your stereo has a 1/8" or 1/4" input, then all you need is an 1/8" to 1/8" extension cable, or 1/8" to 1/4" adapter.
If your stereo has standard stereo wire connectors (the clamp style, or screw style), you'll need to look around and see if anyone makes an adapter for what you're wanting. Either an 1/8" plug to basically bare wires, or something along those lines.

I've got an FM Transmitter that plugs into the 1/8" that could be used to brodcast from you laptop to an FM Frequency. I've used it on my portable DVD player in my truck to listen to movies in stereo and it works out pretty good. Range is limited but within a house I wouldn't think it would be to bad if you have line of sight. Got it from Radio Shack for like $15-20.

Hadn't thought about doing that with a computer in the car before, but that's a damn good idea :D
