I need help with what should be a very basic Photoshop function. I have a .gif file logo that I downloaded, and it has a solid blue area and a solid red area. I want to change the red area to a different color. If someone could IM me and let me know what to do, that'd be great. :)

Thanks!

If the red is a continuous area, just use the fill tool. Otherwise, you can do a Select > Color Range, choose the red, then do Image > Adjust > Hue / Saturation, or Color Balance.

You could also do Image > Adjust > Replace Color. It essentially does the same thing as Select > Color Range, choosing the color, then Image > Adjust > Hue / Saturation. Just does it in one step.

Either way would work. I think taking the extra steps might be a little more accurate for more complex images, because you can tweak the selected area. But for something with only 2 solid colors, you shouldn't have a problem with either method.

Thanks! What you told me to do worked great, but now I have a new problem, which should also be a simple fix. I am trying to type text over the logo in white, but it doesnt show up. I have selected the white color already used in the logo by using the medicine dropper tool, but when I click to type the text, my logo turns all these shades of red, and the text shows up in the color i am trying to type in onto. Any ideas?

Thanks!

For text, I wouldn't select anything. Just create a new layer, and type text on that layer. You can always go back and change the text color, size, shape, etc later.
