I know there's an adapter to connect the Dreamcast to a standard PC monitor, but is there a way to do the same with a PS2?

The universal one sucks. I have one I bought specfically for the ps2, it looks 'ok' but I wasnt expecting much out of it as PS2 games are made for televisions and not VGA output, where as the dreamcast games were made for vga output and not television. The dreamcast games with vga out rival that of an arcade in graphics clarity, it rules.

I picked up the adapter from Game Stop for $29.... The device looks like crap, but the picture quality is awesome. I was surprised. I just have to go get a male/male vga cable now.

AbecX bought one and it was arite. Its looked really shitty because it wasnt interlaced. It was arite. I remember he got one for the dreamcast and it looked so bad ass. Like pixel was so clear and perfect.

I wonder how something like the GameCube would look through that, on VGA, setting it to run in 1080i? Or XBox for that matter. PS2 only does 720p, correct?

Hehehe. 720p a low end HDTV signal. 720 pixels/lines in height (1280 wide, I think). P = progressive scan. There's also 720i, then the high end is 1080i (1920x1080 interlaced)

I think PS2 will do 720p, or maybe 720i, not sure. Otherwise, it's only NTSC which would be 480i (720x480 interlaced). GameCube has a button combination you can do on boot, that will set it for 1080i mode, for use on HDTV's. I think XBox has a setting in the dashboard that you can switch on or off, to switch it to 1080i.

Basically, I wonder how a GameCube or XBox would look, in 1080i mode, through the rca to vga converter. Just get a high res monitor. I imagine it'd be like the Dreamcast in vga mode. Ultra crisp, clean, and bad ass :D
