Just a question I know this right here is a no, no pretty much w/ F-bodies unless you are a very experienced driver.....
This kid my brother goes to school with has a newer GT with gears, exhaust and a couple other bolt-ons, well to night he is going to the Track w/ a brand new set of slicks!!!!!!!! he has a 5-speed!

he's like 17 years old, so I doubt he is a experienced driver.

I was just wondering if I need to go watch.................watch them put his car on a trailer at K-dale tonight that is??????????

Lots of people have had good luck with slicks and stock rearends, but plenty have also gone home on trailers. It's a gamble.

My rearend held up quite well but my control arm bushings did not: Here's what happened to my uppers after a few good 60's. (http://www.flowjack.com/stang/ucas.jpg)

If he snaps an axle, I know where to get some stock replacements.

It depends on how big his balls get leaving the line!

Since he is inexperienced using slicks, I say he burns the clutch up before he breaks the rearend. Rev it to 5500 and dump it baby!!

Thats pretty bad, especially considering the mods you listed. I've seen nearly stock GTs still running the factory tires, pull 8.9s

The stock rearends can take pretty heavy abuse....IF THEY ARE MAINTAINED. What I mean is if the clutch packs are tight and there is VERY LITTLE play in the setup. My track lock was worn..........at 17k miles but I won't comment, and I grenaded the spider gears and cracked the case. This was using extrememly sticky ET streets and launching at 6200 rpm. I got greedy and paid the price for some 1.66 60's and some best times.

This being said, I have also bent and twisted Moser hardened axles with just ~250 rhwp by launching the crap out of the car.

If he is on drag radials with bolt ons, a 9.0 at denton in this weather is actually not bad. I have run 9.0x's on street tires up there and was spinning all the way to the 2-3 shift at the 330' mark.

Just don't get too agressive and you will drive it home.

Bye the way, the number to ProTow 972-219-7090:D

Those were the X2C control arms. I now have some solid double adjustable Granetelli uppers and Ground Pounder adjustable lowers. They should hold up a little better with spherical bushings I hope.
