Anybody have any experience with this card (not really a card but an external USB box for sound)?

I bought my computer thinking it had 5.1 sound (I fucked up and got the wrong model) and I went out and bought the 5.1 speakers and I've only got 2.1 sound. I've only got one available slot (current 2.1 sound is built into the MB) and I'd hate to waste it on a sound card.
Anyway, figured this would be good because I could use my laptop with it if need be. Opinions?

Any of you guys hear anything bad about it? It retails for a little over $100. Kinda pricey but when you consider I can easily swap it between computers it's worth it I think.

Yeah, I was looking at that the other day. Decided just to get a Live! 5.1, but someday I'd be mighty interested in getting one of those Extigy's. Definitely can't go wrong with Creative.

True true. That's the reason I went with the Live! 5.1. $33 shipped.
It won't help you out with not filling that free slot with a sound card ... but definitely not bad for the price.

After some carefull consideration I think I'm going to pass on the Extigy because of the cost. I know it would be nice because I could use it with my laptop but I'm finding it harder and harder to justify the cost (over $100) for it.
So, I'm looking at the following.

$29.99 at Best Buy or...

$49.99

Never mind, quick price search shows the Sound Blaster 5.1 costing right around $29. Figure I'll go with the tried and true Creative card over the Philips.
Now.. which card? I see there are a few flavors of 5.1 Soundblasters.

Philips isn't that bad. I have the Philips 5.1 Surround Sound PSC706. Great card, better than the sound blaster live I had. was also 49.99 a while back. :)

Well I've found both cards online for basically the same price (roughly $29) and I'm inclined to buy the SoundBlaster based on prevous experience with there cards.
Anyway, where you been negamus??? Haven't seen you around lately.

Yeah, they got crazy with their names for the Live!. The only real difference is between the Live! (plain Jane), and every sub-named Live! (MP3, 5.1 Digital, Gamer, Platinum, Platinum Gamer).
The Platinum added a front mounted 5.25" bay breakout box. MP3, Gamer, Platinum Gamer (as well as Platinum) have digital decoding, but not sure if they have digital output (I assume they would though, since they came out after the 5.1 Digital). The 5.1 Digital has digital output for 5.1 audio.
The plain Jane Live! doesn't have the digital output, so the best you can get with it is analog 4.1 sound.
