Three miles in 23:45, I couldn't believe it myself. I was running at 8.0 mph for a good while in there.

New goal is 21 minutes or less...now that would be hauling some ass for a fat guy like me!!

Feldman, I have had a shoulder injury for months and last night I got the 80 lbers. up for 6 reps on the incline so I was happy with myself in that regard too. Hopefully I'll be back up close to 100 lbs. in a month or two.

all.. the sucky part about my gym is.. there are weights in 2.5 - 5lbs incriments all the way up to 100lbs.. then it goes.. 115.. .130 and then goes on.. its a BIG jump from 100 to 115.. and then 115 to 130..
like on shoulderpress.. im stuck with the 100lbs dumbells.. i can know cout 12-14 on my first set.. but there is no one to help me force out reps after that.. so i fail at 6.. its starting to piss me off..

go up to the counter and find the manager and say, "look mother fucker, if you don't get some more weights up in this bitch, I'm gonna start shoulder pressing you!!"

Congrats Al!

I think you will find the trek to 21 minutes will be much easier than the trek to 24 minutes.

I've found in myself (21 years ago!) and others I've assisted since then that once you break the 8 minute barrier on a 10K, the road down to 7 minute miles comes fairly quickly.

The road to 6 minute miles (and below) from 7 minute miles is probably the hardest and that is why you will see the "middle pack" in a 10K between 7-8 minute miles. There are very few people out there that can naturally run 6 minute miles and below.

Congrats again!

that's about what I run my 5k's. I know what you're going through. I can't wait to lose more lbs. to get back into the 7's. When you run in a race with others, you will notice that you can seem to always push your pace harder. It's always motivation to have those ladies around competing as well, nice scenery.

Not at our 24 Hour fitness.:( There isn't a single trainer in there that I'd pay for advice. It amazes me how outta shape some are.

That is like Gold's or probably any other gym. The only ones I've seen at Gold's that possibly knew what they were doing were the ones that were not employed by Gold's, but were training their clients that happened to be member's of Gold's.

I have one at Bally's and she is great! She works out with me most of the time, and is worth the money. However, she's one of the few I would train with, one guy trainer actually used the word thingie to describe a machine the other day.

They are out there. Just few and far between.

Back when I worked in Addison in the early 90s, I worked out at the Bally's on Beltline (by the tollway). The training director, or what ever his title was, has an Exercise Physiology PhD.

But, for the most part, the best ones are doing it for themselves, since that is where the money is at.
