For some reason this week I did not go to the gym or do any kind of physical excersise whatsoever until tonight but I saw some pretty impressive gains from the last time I lifted. After an hour of mild cardio, I worked my chest and triceps and was using 20lbs more than usual on everything and could still complete all of my sets & reps except the last rep and was damn close to getting it all the way up. A few people have said to me before that they wished they could stand to stay away from the gym for a week or so to recover and maybe this is why.

Sounds like you werent getting enough rest between workouts. That includes at least 8 hours of sleep / nite and not overtraining. A week out of the gym gave your body more than enough time to fully repair itself.

I love it when that happens, I feel like a bum taking a 2 or 3 day vacation off of working out, then when I get back in there, for some reason I've jumped up 10-15 lbs.:D

That is probably my answer right there. :o I will admit that I haven't been sleeping well in the last few months and 5 days off probably did me some good.
