Im crusing the web looking for what others have done and haven't found a 'whole' lot of what I'd consider doing to my car. The door panal looks like a GREAT canidate for some serious sound however, I may end up fiberglassing/fabbing my own stuff in there but i'd rather just bolt a good component set in.
I'm looking at the MB Quart PSD 216 6 1/2 Component set w/ MUSiCOMP x-overs; anyone had any experience w/ this set?
As far as bass is concerned, I've got a few designs that I'm undecided on but that can come later. I mainly would like to build a well imaged front stage...oh ya and maybe a lil in the rear as well.
Thanks,
Scott

man that was the fastest reply ever! ;)
Its a pretty good sized cavity that expands outward away from the door to meet the dash. Inside it is the massive BOSE speaker/amp assembly which is far from small.
Not very good pics but you can see where the speaker gear goes and how big that is.

On a side note...that diamond plate shit isn't getting anywhere near my car!

im sure you could do something with that MBquart set,
have you checked into the focal stuff? ive listened to both, and i dig the way the focals sound, however i do have MBquart tweets in my 240, so they arent all bad :P
is the factory speaker a 6.5?

I talked to someone at Bedford autosound (not Eric) today and they said it was 17cm, a size I hadn't hear of before (but thats not saying too much ;) ). I'm pretty confident that w/ some masonite/glass/etc the 6 1/2's would stuff in there nicely AND sound really good.
The focal stuff is supposed to be smoking awesome but its been a while since Ive listened to higher-end modern mids/high; I'm really due for a demo or two (or three) before making my mind up.

yup, you could do some AWESOME stuff with a vette, an eclipe aluminum 10, some focal components in the doors, a nice set of coax's in the rear.
that could be fucking sweet, good luck to ya man. hope you get the system that car deserves.

Fear not, I've stuffed a set of old school MB Quart 8" 2-ways in those doors several times. There is a ton of room.
17cm is the size of the PSD-216 mid. Kind of an over sized 6.5. They will work very well in that door. You can mount the mid and tweet in there with no problem. Use a big amp, approx 100W RMS+ IMO. I have installed a 5.25 in the rear but you must use components if you want the panel to fit properly. I do have a nice set of Eclipse 5.25 coax that will fit but the bottom edge of the rear panel does not snap back into place. By looking at it, you can not tell that it is not on correctly. If you have a chance, come by. It only takes 2 seconds to remove that panel and install the speaker to show you what I mean.
