I used to take my 95GT out to Pennington Field every once in awhile a few years ago. My Miata's for sale right now, but I'd love to take it out and autocross it before it sells....anyone go to these events? I assume they still run out there once a month??

There is a BMW Auto-X in Mineral Wells this Saturday (6/14), if you want to auto-x one last time in the Miata. I will be out and I think a few others from the board might be out there.

EDIT: "IV"

Anyone got any info on that or a link?
I wouldn't mind poppin off the center caps and seeing if I'm getting any handling bonus with this back-breaking suspension of mine. :p

I haven't done one with the SCCA group yet as I heard pennington field is getting pretty torn up.......

I have done one with the Lonestar BMW club and plan on going to mineral wells this weekend. I am also hoping my rear suspension parts come in so I can take advantage and start getting some more points!!!!

My understanding has always been that Mineral Wells is usually a longer course that allows a strong car to "stretch it's legs" more so than Pennington.....since the Miata doesn't have very long legs I though Pennington would be good. I've actually never been to Mineral Wells, but I've heard it's pretty fun. Well, plus I'm a lazy bastard and Mineral Wells is further away! :D If some people are going out there this weekend, I might just tag along. How does it work for a newbie???

I think you just show up. That is what I did with this group at TMS. I think Andrew might be taking the Z06 out, and there are a couple of others that go.

Go to this link and that should answer a few of your questions. They are BMW guys but they are pretty cool.

I have been to the auto-x event at Mineral Wells, Pennington, and TX Motor Speedway. The Mineral Wells event, at a small airport, was the longer course. Near 60 seconds to finish the course the one time I went. TX Motor Speedway had the nicest parking lot.

Some tips for a newbie: Bring money, try to get there early, try to go with someone that has done it before or ask about the format from someone working there (usually when you are not running, you are working), bring an ice chest with lots of drinks, bring your helmet, bring some tape to make your class and numbers for your car's doors, air gauge, air pump, sun block, bring food or you can get food near by, and walk the course with someone that know the different cone positions.

I'm sure I missed something. It really helps to know someone that has been and raced there before.

Great reply!!! I forgot to bring all the food and stuff my first time and it sucked. Use the blue masking tape for numbers, works great on my silver car!!!

As for TMS, that was almost a road course due to the size.....1.6 miles and 130 seconds of pure adrenaline.

See everyone there. I am still at work at wanting to get home and put parts on!!!!

Yeah, a little.

I usually go with the guys from SportBikeHype when they have their events.

Much more relaxed atmosphere.

Mineral Wells event course is a higher speed course. It's at the old Helicopter Base by the airport.. Really big piece of pavement..

Last time we took the Protege 5 out to watch.. majority of cars were S2000's, a Vette or two.. and one Mustang (white fox convertable?)

I might head out there this weekend if it isn't 1000 degrees..

Bring your rain tires!!!!

I don't know if they will still run. It would seem a little pointless.

I will see if I can make contact and find out about rain schedule.

Well, forecast is low 80's and only a 30% chance of rain.

I am loading up the car at 5:30 and heading that way. hopefully it won't rain too much.

I got the rear suspension installed, panhard bar installed and the transmission back in the car so I am ready and willing to go thrash some BMW's and vettes again!!!!

See yall there.
