View Full Version : Street car shootout- Interested?

Myself and a buddy are trying to organize a street car shootout at Redline Raceway sometime in July. The rules would be fairly simple... Tags and inspection, Street tires and mufflers. cheater slicks OK. Several classes-

Small block carb
Big block carb
EFI
Pro-street (maybe, depending on the # of cars interested.) Anything goes in this class....(Street tires still mandated)

For the non pro street cars, 10.5" of maximum tread (as measured) allowed. No mini-tubs or "W" tires allowed. A 28 x 12.5 ET street or equivalent would be about it for tread width.

Multiple power adders Ok

No clutchless 5 speeds or Lencos except for pro-street.

We are trying to get a feel for who would be interested. Any comments or suggestions are welcome....Thanks!:D

LOL you say street car, and you post two different OLD school classes with the carb classes... I don't think there will be many cars in the street class that are Big blocks with carbs... not many I see cruising around. Why not group them together and mandate the classes on the type of tires, so people car run slicks/DOTs and street tires/DRs?

I dont know if we should have that many classes! Im thinking maybe we should just have 2 classes!

1:EFI class
2:Carb class

Bothe classes are DOT tires and must be Inspected with muffler or mufflers! No bigger tire than 10.50 and unlimited power adders! I think thats fair enough! To many rules and classes your way. I'll talk with them to see if I can pull this off! Oh and are we talking about "Heads Up" or "Bracket"?

That sounds good, but I have a carbed car and would like to run a few EFI cars, would that fall under the "grudge match" catagory?

Well I geuss or maybe we could just have those 2 classes as BRACKET and then have a "Heads up " class were all run everyone!

OK, here's the scoop so far:

(2) classes-
EFI class
Carb class

Pro .4 tree
Multiple power adders OK
Street tires (cheaters OK)
No clutchless 5 speeds, lencos etc.
No mini-tubs, 10.5" tire max (measured)
Inspected and registered through the mufflers

Quick 8............... after all is said and done for a king o the hill thing between the EFI and carb cars and for fun-n grudge so to speak...

We're still open to suggestions, this is far from being set in stone yet........

What??? Why restrict a car with mini-tubs when the maximum tire width is 10.5? If a car's tire size is limited a maximum size of 10.5" it wont make a difference if the car has mini tubs or not.

Instead of separating by carb or EFI , how about a power adder class and a N/A class. When it comes to street cars thats where the real separation is.

Well like we said it's not in stone. I dont know, maybe we can do that instead of the EFI and Carb! Mini Tubs will be fine but we are trying to keep this as "Close " to street car as possible! The ideal is to see who is the fastest on a tire no bigger than a 10.5!
I think it would realy set things off better if we did it how you mentioned it! People would get to race the bothe types of cars with EFI and Carbs!
All safety rules will still apply!!!
No EXCEPTIONS...
Let's talk about the ENTRY fee and payouts! If we want a decent payout we have to fork out about $40 dollars! If we do that I think the payout will be around $500 to the winner and 300 to runner up and must be at least 28 cars for a payout in each class! "THIS IS JUST AN EXAMPLE"! In other words the more we pay the more we get!

OrangeS10

I have no problem with cars being trailers in! I think if we allow them then we will have a bigger turn out! What do the rest of us say?

DMcRacer
06-05-2003, 10:51 PM
I think the payout really depends on what your trying to accomplish. If you have a big enough pay out you'll bring some heavy hitters in. If the entry fee and pay outs are not too high you'll draw more average Joe's like me. I will not pay $50 to enter a heads up race when I have no chance in hell of winning.

OrangeS10
06-05-2003, 10:57 PM
Well what do you think a good entry fee is? Obviously we want it to be worth everyones worth while, thats why we are asking you the RACERS the questions! Would you rather it be heads up or bracket! Do you want a PRO TREE or .500?

DMcRacer
06-06-2003, 12:31 AM
I would love to do some heads up on a pro tree. Its hard to get a big number of people to do it though. A guy running 8.30's will not want to enter when the competition is running 6.90's. It might be better to set up some index classes with one all out heads up class that pays out a little more. I would'nt mind paying $40 if I have a chance to win, but I'm not going to if I know there are 10 cars running a second faster then me.

Why not base it on indexes. Like a 5.50, 6.50, 7.50, and 8.50 and up, something similar to what Kenedale is running.

You got lots of work cut out for you in the morning, we got all the susp. done. You gotta finish the exhaust and I gotta do some painting.:D

Hmmm. You won't have to hunt too hard, I'll wave to you as we pass on the return road (provided you have crossed the traps, wouldn't want to distract you).....How do you see to run with all of that rubber on your windshield?

I won't be out tonight, it will probably still be too wet and yep- I'm going fishing!:p

It's unlimited cubic inches for either class! We dont care how many power adders you have as long as you dont use it in the N/A class!
