Ok, I've been really sick lately and could not workout for about two months now, no hockey, weights, cardio, anything (and I am feeling it). Friday I get to start my workouts again. I won't be able to jump back into them, I know that. I need to be ready to play by the second weekend in July, just over one month to get back in shape. My normal workout is skating 1.5 to 2 miles a day 3 to 5 days a week depending on how much hockey I had. I also lifted weights, but not as regularly as I should have. I have lost about 15 lbs since I got sick. I don't want to get really big, I was 6 ft 180lbs. I would like to get up to 190 lbs eventually. But I don't want to take any suppliments because they either don't work on me or make me crazy. Should I start back with cardio for a week or two then start the weights, or start back on weights at the same time? Also, should I tone down the cardio so I can put on some size? After the tournament July 9th I don't have to play good hockey until the college season starts in October, so I can step my cardio back up closer to October.
Sorry this was so long.
Thanks,
Jason

I'm not sure what kinda of program to suggest to benefit hockey the best, but when coming back from a break you need to ease into it regardless of your long-term plan. Concentrate on form with relatively lighter weight to give your joints and "attaching hardware" time to strengthen up before you get too intense. Going too heavy too soon is the perfect recipe for injury, which will halt your progress in the gym AND on the ice.

Thanks, I figure low weight, lots of reps for a while and build back up. I know what I am going to do once hockey season gets closer and while it is going on. I am just wondering what I can do to put some "good" weight back on before then. I finished last season at about 175-180lbs. and since I got sick I dropped to 160-165lbs then started putting on fat weight. I don't need to start my hockey specific workouts until August. So that gives me two months to try and put some weight back on. Any tips?
Thanks,
Jason
